We had an overall good stay, but the experience didn’t quite feel five star to us. There was some lovely touches and the service was warm, but the overall level of polish, attention to detail, and seamlessness you’d expect from a five star property wasn’t always there. (It also seemed like a slightly older building and so some of the things like the door hinges were aged as well.) We also found the 3 pm check-in quite late particularly after travelling and would have appreciated being able to settle in a little earlier.
That said, the service was a highlight. Erica, at the front, in particular was wonderful - personable, helpful and genuinely informative about where to go and what to do in Porto. There were also some thoughtful touches waiting for us in the room, including a small place of truffle chocolates and champagne on arrival. Our balcony had beautiful views over the Douro River, and the location was perfect for us - very convenient for getting too many of the places we want us to visit around the city.
Overall, a very pleasant day with great hospitality and beautiful setting and an excellent location.
