The best area to stay in São Tomé is around the historic center, particularly near the Praça da República.

This area is the heart of São Tomé, offering easy access to many of the city's main attractions. You'll find a concentration of shops, restaurants, and historic buildings, including the Paços do Concelho (Town Hall) and the Igreja Matriz de São Tomé. Its central location makes exploring the city on foot very convenient.

For couples looking for a relaxed yet engaging experience, staying in this central area is ideal. You can enjoy strolls through the historic streets, discover local eateries, and easily visit landmarks like the Forte de São Sebastião, which offers views of the bay.

Travelers seeking convenience and a local experience will also appreciate this location.

The best time to go to São Tomé is during the dry season, which runs from June to September. This period offers the most pleasant weather for exploring.

During these months, you'll experience less rainfall and plenty of sunshine, making it ideal for outdoor activities like hiking along the coastal trails or relaxing on the area's beaches. The mild temperatures are comfortable for sightseeing around the village and enjoying the natural beauty of the Viana do Castelo District.

For travelers looking for a tranquil escape, visiting in late spring (May) or early autumn (October) can also be appealing. While there might be a slight increase in rainfall, you'll find fewer crowds and still enjoy agreeable weather, often at a better value for accommodations.
