Sherkin Island lies in the sheltered waters of Roaringwater Bay, west Cork. It is a relatively small island, no more than 5km by 3km, with a current population of approximately 100. There is easy access by ferry from Baltimore, a trip of about 15 minutes. The island offers a special experience for anyone with an interest in wildlife and the marine. It is one of the best places in Europe to observe the European Otter (Lutra lutra) - there are signs of them everywhere if you know what to look for. The island is also home to the independently run Sherkin Island Marine Station, which celebrates its 40th anniversary this year.

"We really enjoyed our stay in the cottage in Bantry. We were welcomed by a cozy fire and the place was clean and charming. We loved the kitchen and enjoyed cooking and dining together there. "We stayed at this home and enjoyed the charming town, location to beautiful ocean views and walks. The house is right in town with close access to all stores and pubs. The property is cozy and warm. The site manager took care of all of our concerns and was very responsive with a few issues that we had. She was truly secret asset to this property!
