Niigata is 16 miles (26 kilometers) from Shibata. This center has a wide range of things to do and see, including Northern Culture Museum, Toki Messe and Niigata Stadium (Tohoku Denryoku Big Swan Stadium). A key to unlocking the culture is speaking the native language, so while in the area it is great if you can practice some practical Japanese phrases and expressions. Why not try "Isshoni odorimasenka?" This means "Would you like to dance with me?" "Benjo wa doko desu ka?" means "Where's the toilet?"
Birthday of Emperor Akihito is held on the 23rd of December, so be sure to put aside your sightseeing and join in the fun and festivities with happy locals.
As your vacation winds down, you'll be sure to bid Shibata a sad "Sayōnara"
