Good value for the money

We keep coming back to Fis because of its great location, very tasty food and professional service. Hotel rooms are OK, but would need some renovation as well as the hotel’s exterior. Not much has been done in the recent years and from outside the building really looks shabby. I love the fitness room even though the machines are a bit old. It is still good enough for the full body workout. Thank you👏

Great location but faded glory

The Hotel is a bit of a faded glory. It is in a fantastic location at the start of lots of hikes but really needs some extensive renovation. The gym is huge and probably the best gym in the whole High Tatras but equipment is old and the whole place really needs a good clean . In summary, not a bad option if you plan on being out hiking all day and want to start early...but definitely not a hotel for spending leisurely days in.

Check in was hassle free, which was a great start. On the night you arrive, you don't have the option to buy tickets for the dinner buffet, but you can get dinner a la carte at the restaurant-bar upstairs. Food was good, although a little bit pricey. The breakfast buffet is fairly decent, especially considering it is included in the cost of reservation. The dinner buffet can be booked at breakfast time, and while it works out a bit cheaper than the a la carte menu, the food isn't as good. Furthermore, the range of options at the dinner buffet was extremely disappointing, especially considering the range available at breakfast. The main issue we had with food was at the dinner buffet, when we were not informed that a "pasta and potato salad" contained small chunks of bacon. Vegetarians may need to be vigilant when eating here. The room was okay at best. Don't be fooled, the "double bed" is actually two single beds pushed together, with a few inches separating the two mattresses. The shower head, when in its stand, aimed water over our heads rather than onto our heads. The only way we could shower was by holding the shower head ourselves. The main light in the room didn't have a switch. Or at least not one we could find. Fortunately, there were plenty of other lamps in the room. Finally, the walls are paper thin meaning you'll probably get woken up at 6:30 am by the noisy guys in the adjacent room, as we discovered during our (thankfully) short stay.

Home in the Tatras

GREAT Location! Right in the beauty of the gorgeous mountains. Staff at check in and checkout were nice and helpful. Elevator right to your room from the lobby. Parking right out front. We had breakfast and dinner included in the hotel stay, both very tasty. It was worth paying extra. Wellness center was included in the price as well. Free parking and WiFi. View from the window was breathtaking. No complains.

Nice hotel in the Tatra mountains

Hotel FIS is located is ideally located for walks in the Tatra mountains, both shorter outings and longer trips. The hotel was originally built for the Nordic world ski championship in 1970 (thus the name FIS, from the international skiing federation). While the furniture in the rooms is new and the beds comfortable, the hotel building and rooms betray the age. We had a family room that was nice, but somewhat unpractical in that it was long and narrow (stretching from one side of the building to the other), and had a pretty cramped bathroom. The view from the front side was of the ski jump and other parts of the resort, the back side (where the somewhat larger balkony was) offered a view of an old, not so pretty building, a chimney and woods. Breakfast was typical Slovak, good and filling. The personell was really friendly and helpful. Free, decent WiFi. We did not try the spa. Overall a pleasant stay, but somewhat pricey for the standard. You pay for location...
