Bring lots of small bills as it seems like there are lots of opportunities you will be encouraged to give. Keep an open mind if you are from the west (I am), competition for scarce resources is a hall mark of poverty and for a modest sum you can help alleviate some of it temporarily while creating some good merit (dana) in the Buddhist tradition. There were people with cages of birds outside that let you free them for a cost, my 7yo daughter went crazy and several vendors stuck them in front of her so I ended up owing several rather than one, I had thought them together (a family) - I think in hindsight that is what I was supposed to believe - and perhaps they were and this was part of the game. I just sucked it up and paid the few extra dollars and didn't take it personally.. but just giving a warning as some take things like this personally - you shouldn't - it's competition for scarce resources.

This gothic style church is absolutely gorgeous and was completed sometime between 1899-1910. It is easy to see the church from around the city because of the iconic steeples. The architecute, detail work, stained glass, and reliefs inside the church are truly works of art. A must see church in Yangon. Women must wear long pants or skirt to enter. Visitor hours are between 2-5pm and sometime in the morning on days there are not services.

In the heart of downtown Yangon is this nice park which sits right across from Sole Pagoda. The buildings surrounding the park show off incredible colonial architecture that is seen throughout the city. Enjoy a nice walk or lunch in the park and watch the locals go about their daily activities.
