Enjoy a slower pace of sightseeing — and maybe even get a little spiritual — at Sule Pagoda. If it's possible to go inside, why not hang around for a few moments of quiet meditation?

You'll soon discover why this Yangon Downtown place of worship is visited by many travelers. If you're searching for more to do and see here, Shwedagon Pagoda, Myanmar Plaza, and Kandawgyi Lake are in this area as well. They won't take very long to get to from Sule Pagoda.

Bring lots of small bills as it seems like there are lots of opportunities you will be encouraged to give. Keep an open mind if you are from the west (I am), competition for scarce resources is a hall mark of poverty and for a modest sum you can help alleviate some of it temporarily while creating some good merit (dana) in the Buddhist tradition. There were people with cages of birds outside that let you free them for a cost, my 7yo daughter went crazy and several vendors stuck them in front of her so I ended up owing several rather than one, I had thought them together (a family) - I think in hindsight that is what I was supposed to believe - and perhaps they were and this was part of the game. I just sucked it up and paid the few extra dollars and didn't take it personally.. but just giving a warning as some take things like this personally - you shouldn't - it's competition for scarce resources.

3/5 - Okay
