Learn more about Talknafjordur

Soak in the natural hot springs at Pollurinn while gazing across the dramatic fjord landscape. Fishing enthusiasts can join local boats for sea angling or visit the nearby Dynjandi waterfall in the Westfjords.

We stumbled upon this little café on our way to Ísafjörður from Patreksfjörður, and what a find! This was probably the best meal I've ever had in Iceland. We each had coffee, freshly-made quiche, chickpea salad, and garlicky hummus with fresh-baked bread. We also shared soup made with coriander and freshly-caught fish, and a piece of carrot cake. Filling and delicious, this fantastic meal cost a very reasonable ISK 3,300 ($29 USD) per person. #TroverDetour

Frequently asked questions

What is the best area to stay in Talknafjordur?
The best area to stay in Talknafjordur is directly within the village itself, which is located along the fjord's coastline.

The village is small and easily navigable, with most accommodations, services, and local attractions concentrated along the main road that follows the waterfront. You'll find the local swimming pool, a grocery store, and a few dining options all within a short walk of each other. This compact layout makes it convenient for travelers looking to experience local life without needing a car for every outing.

For solo travelers or couples seeking a tranquil and authentic Icelandic experience, staying in the village is ideal. It offers a chance to experience the quiet pace of life in a Westfjords fishing village, with opportunities for coastal walks, birdwatching, and enjoying the natural surroundings directly from your doorstep.
When is the best time to go to Talknafjordur?
The best time to visit Talknafjordur is during the summer months, from June to August, when the weather is mildest and daylight hours are longest.

During these months, the average temperatures are between 10-15°C (50-59°F), and the sun can be visible for up to 24 hours a day in June and July. This extended daylight provides ample opportunity for outdoor activities like hiking and exploring the scenic fjords without the concern of darkness.

This period is particularly ideal for travelers interested in outdoor adventures and wildlife viewing. The warmer temperatures make activities like kayaking in the fjord or visiting the Dynjandi waterfall more comfortable, and it's also the peak season for spotting puffins and other seabirds along the coast.

For those seeking a more tranquil experience with a chance to see the Northern Lights, late August and early September can also be an excellent time.
