One of over 7000 islands in the Philippines, Malcapuya is a small island in Coron, Palawan with a stretch of white sandy beach and crystal blue waters. On the southeastern side is an elevated viewpoint where you can watch the sunrise as its soft hues light up the eastern side of the island.
The very first time I heard of Balabac was when I saw George Tapan’s award winning photo of Onok Island. I have always been fascinated with the more unexplored places of my country, the Philippines; and since then, Balabac has been on my list of places to go for years. I had always wanted to see what the furthest end of “the best island in the world” had to offer -- the last of the "last frontier".
The journey to Onok Island can be arduous and exhausting. Located on the westernmost part of the Philippines, it is closer to Malaysia than it is to the nation's capital. However, it may be safe to say that anyone who has made it all the way here will tell you that it's all worth it. Pristine beaches, sandbars and clear turquoise waters await the most intrepid travelers.
