Let’s talk about the local area today. ✔️There are quite a few names here that incorporate the word “quaker”: Quaker Heights, Quaker Valley, Quaker school district, Quaker High School, etc. After some research today, I discovered that in colonial times, the whole Pennsylvania (formed in 1681) was nicknamed the Quaker State. ✔️Its governor was William Penn and yes, that’s how the name was formed: “Penn” + “sylvania” that means “forest land”. William Penn was a quaker, a member of a Christian religion branch who (in essence) believed that the each human being has an ability to access “the light within” without a priest as an intermediary. ✔️As a quaker, William Penn experienced all manners of hostility because of his beliefs, so when he became a governor, he wrote the constitution for Pennsylvania that guaranteed “liberty of conscience”. ✔️Pennsylvania is one of the 13 original founding states of the United States of America which declared independence in 1776 form the United States of America. ✔️The state is also known as the Keystone State because of its central location among the original Thirteen Colonies forming the United States, and also because the Declaration of Independence was signed here. ✔️Other names are “The Coal State", "The Oil State", "The Chocolate State", and "The Steel State" after the state's greatest industries.
