2. Queen Mary Falls

Although Main Range National Park has several other lovely waterfalls, Queen Mary Falls is often simply called “The Falls” because it is perhaps the most notable feature in the southern part of the park. Take a short hike from the road to see the falls plunging dramatically 130 feet (40 meters) from the top of a cliff to the rocks below. Watch mist swirling in the air as water splashes up from the base.

3. Stanthorpe Visitor Information Centre

Look for the blue signs with a big yellow “i” and arrow pointing toward the Stanthorpe Visitor Information Center. The compact beige stone building next to the beautiful but oddly named Quart Pot Creek offers not just information, but also restroom facilities, coffee, snacks, locally made souvenirs and hometown friendliness from staff members.

4. Main Range National Park

Plan a visit to Main Range National Park for exhilarating treks in varied surroundings. The long, narrow park, stretching 23 miles (37 kilometers) from Kangaroo Mountain to Wilsons Peak, has four distinct sections, each with its own entrance and attractions. The park is part of the Gondwana Rainforests of Australia World Heritage Area, signifying a respect for the First Nations people who originally inhabited these lands as well as an obligation to preserve the region’s biodiversity.

5. Glengallan Homestead and Heritage Centre

The Glengallan Homestead and Heritage Centre is a living reminder of the huge sheepherding estate the Scottish Campbell brothers initiated as squatters on the Darling Downs in 1844. Wander through the impressive homestead, established 20 years later by John Deuchar. The house has been partially restored and partially left to show the passage of time during abandonment.
