The university campus and modern theater create a youthful vibe, while the sculpture museum and imposing religious buildings reveal a rich history.

With its historic churches and narrow alleys lined with medieval townhouses Arnaud Bernard stands out as one of the most distinctive quarters in Toulouse. Visit Arnaud Bernard to browse the array of alternative items available in the many boutique shops and mingle with students in bohemian cafés, trendy bars and nightclubs.

Enjoy the youthful atmosphere, as you chat to the students from the Université Toulouse 1 Capitole, in the southwestern corner of the quarter. Stroll through the grounds and admire the majestic buildings on campus. The Jardin de l’Université provides a scenic green setting, while the Place Saint-Pierre overlooks the River Garonne and the Chapelle Saint-Joseph de la Grave.

Head northeast to reach the Church of Notre Dame du Taur, whose iconic bell tower rises high above the streets. The impressive building is linked to the martyrdom of Saint Sernin, a fascinating history told through the gilded fresco inside the church.

Walk north for 2 or 3 minutes to find the Carmelite Chapel. Once inside, marvel at the spectacular 17th-century ceiling murals by prominent French artist Jean-Pierre Rivals.

For an outstanding collection of Roman sculptures, visit the nearby Saint Raymond Museum. Get an insight into the lives of the Romans and Celts who inhabited the region through these exquisite statues and mosaics.

On the same street as the museum stands the Le Fil à Plomb, a modern theater showing musicals, plays and comedy acts. After a show, try the traditional cassoulet duck stew at a nearby restaurant, and join the young crowds in the bars.

Arnaud Bernard is a quarter that runs outwards from a bend in the River Garonne in central Toulouse. Ride the metro to the stations of Compans Caffarelli, Jeanne d’Arc and Capitole and get around the district on foot. Travel to some of the neighboring zones, such as Capitole de Toulouse, the city’s historic heart, and the business district of Compans.
