Casa Sara is a beloved second family home we occasionally share when we’re not in the Caribbean. It is not your typical VRBO or Airbnb rental. Filled with original art by the owner and other artists, it has 3 spacious BR’s and 1 BA upstairs, with a daybed and full BA downstairs. A large, open kitchen & dining area is ideal or hosting family gatherings, as is the large airy living room, with a large desk/work table for those for working remotely.
The original owners of this home knew the island well. They built the home to stay cool during the day, taking advantage of the trade winds’ constant breeze, while also capturing the views of the water from the spacious veranda on the 2nd floor of the house. Casa Sara is in residential neighborhood with great neighbors, with a mix of local and part-time residents, and rental properties.
You do not need a rental vehicle in Esperanza, with several beaches and the Malecon’s restaurants within easy walking distance. There is a plethora of dining choices here, with gourmet to casual menus; for breakfast, lunch and dinner, and all with the island dress code...beachwear! You won't need to prepare meals if cooking is not your thing.
There is the local bodega (Lydia’s Colmado) for basics, if you do want to prepare any meals.
Taxis and publicos area conveniently available for all your needs , or a trip to Isabella Segunda on the other side of the island, with more shopping, restaurants and markets. If you do wish to rent a vehicle to explore all that the island has to offer, including the numerous beaches within the Wildlife Refuge, please keep in mind that car rentals are usually booked way in advance, as there is more demand than supply on the island.
Cats, chickens & roosters, horses, iguanas, and dogs freely roam the island, and the neighborhood. You may have a kitty visiting you on the veranda for a treat, see an iguana in the palm tree out front, or hear roosters in the morning, and always, the beautiful horses coming down the street several times a day. It is all part of the charm of Vieques, and it is why we love Casa Sara, and Esperanza.
