Colorado Living Yurt

This is a fully functional, fully equipped yurt located in the magnificent Unaweeep Canyon. It offers all the amenities of home while still allowing a strong connection with the outdoors. The origin of the "yurt" or "ger" can be traced back to nomadic tribes of Mongolia. While the modern yurt offers a few extra creature comforts, the essence of living in a round structure has remained the same!!!!

Property was double booked, owner would not pay for hotel room
I drove with my family 4 hours just to stay at this yurt in the middle of nowhere, only to find it was double-booked and we would not be able to stay. Contacted the owner and he blamed another website, said they had done this to him before and that he wouldn't use them anymore - still one month later his listing his still on that site. He was apologetic and offered to help us find a place to stay, but w/dogs and a child I ended up booking a cheap hotel 45 minutes away thinking he would reimburse me. No luck. After several attempts to clear this up with him I am left with only the option of a bad review. The yurt itself looked ok, though not as pictured, and there is another vacation rental that shares the same driveway and is nearby, also not mentioned in his description. Overall it was a terrible experience: a waste of the little vacation time my husband gets and couple tanks of gas. Staying in a crappy hotel room with 2 dogs, a grumpy husband, and my 3 year old who was crying about not getting to stay in the yurt that she was super-excited about was not fun!

Great place!
The valley where the yurt is located was wonderful, like camping in a secluded spot but with the comforts of home, I’d definitely recommend this spot

Unbeatable Location
This property is in a unique location, and is perfect for solitude and enjoying the outdoors in a beautiful and remote location. Hiking is available right outside the door. There are also hiking trials close by. The stargazing at night is magnificent. The Yurt itself is roomy, the loft area is perfect underneath the clear dome. The kitchen and bathroom make staying in the Yurt very manageable and comfortable. The owner Nick is responsive and clearly interested in making certain you have a great stay. We loved the warmth of the pellet stove, and enjoyed the outdoor fire pit and the large grill. Do not pass up an opportunity to stay here!

Overall, beautiful and unique property.
Had a quiet, restful time. Easy access, peaceful and beautiful views. Inquired about sleeping situation and linen availability with no response. Not sure where 10 people would sleep with only two beds available. Could use some cleaning in the ceiling area- very cob-webby. Still had a nice stay.

Family Retreat
The property was clean and had beautiful views. It is represented to sleep 10, but it has one queen bed, one futon and one mattress in a loft with sleeping bags. We had 5 adults and that was the max. I think it could sleep with us sharing beds. The seating is not for a large group. Thankfully we brought some camping chairs. It was a remote, relaxing, family retreat for us but not as comfortable for sleeping as we hoped. Propety Managers were responsive and driving directions were clear. We would return maybe with one couple.

In need of some TLC
We were, overall, disappointed with our stay. This was our honeymoon, so I lacked time to do a ton of research on the area due to planning a wedding and having family from all over the country visiting. We were told that we'd have wifi and a blue-tooth speaker there, but once we arrived only one device would connect to the wifi and there was no speaker. We reached out were told that another guest left it out in the rain, but if we wanted to drive up to Grand Junction, they'd buy one and give it to us up there. Internet peeps came out and told us there was an issue with their router, but they wouldn't give us a discount because we got the weekly rate, which was discounted. So, we had to drive to Gateway to look up info on the area. They had a fire pit so we asked if they had chairs--they said yes. It turned out to be the old, plastic chairs and both of them had broken backs, one of which was tied together with string so you couldn't even lean back without your back getting pinched or caving out all together. The first night in the bed was incredibly uncomfortable--we looked at the mattress and actual springs were coming out. We ended up buying and leaving behind a mattress pad. We were excited to use the loft to see the stars, but it appeared they were just using it as a storage area on one side and then there was a plain, old mattress tossed up there with no sheets or anything on or near it & the amount of dust and cobwebs was unruly, so we didn't lay up there together. There is also a massive red ant infestation. They were invading the yurt *only* one day, but they overrun the yard so if you have a dog, it won't be able to lay down outside with you. We were bitten several times, as was my dog. The pellet stove is in need of maintenance, too. The gasket is falling off the front door, making it tough to hold the heat in, so the yurt was never really warm. And finally, there was no book of info. We were staying for a week. Unbeknownst to us, the cleaning lady came by early in the week to take the trash, but said that was it for her. We had no info on where to take the trash or anything useful to people who were staying for a full week. TBH, the yurt is nice, it just seems like the owners haven't been down in a while to check things out or they weren't ready for the season or something--it just needs some actual attention. Lightbulbs were out, cobwebs, dirty from people using it. Just things that a day or 2 of TLC would help.

The View!
This Yurt is better than staying in the National Parks! The view across the valley both night & day is amazing. The animal sounds & sightings is terrific as well. In the Yurt we had to work with the heat of the day as well as cool evenings so that was an experience as well.

Fantastic yurt in an extraordinary location
My boys and I soaked up our time at this fantastic yurt. Each night we fell asleep seeing the stars from the many windows and round skylight - glamping at its best! The location in Unaweep Canyon could not have been more amazing. We drove for miles through the red rocks and ran out of time to tackle all the hikes that were available. Colorado at its best!

A beautiful location for a Colorado experience!!
The property has great views and there were lots of elk to watch both days we were there. It was a comfortable yurt with all of the amenities, but still had a camping feel. It was about an hour away from Colorado National Monument with many hiking trails nearby.

Incredible. We WILL be back!
Very clean, very remote feeling. We are even considering buying our own yurt after this experience. We had little kids and dogs here and they loved running wild. Everything worked fantastically, we cooked outside and inside. The bath/shower is great, kids loved the big tub. This was like tent camping for a queen. Running water, soft beds, a toilet with running water. But the feeling is completely remote. You can hear the cars driving by but you cannot see the yurt from the road, and we easily accessed it with our minivan. Every evening a giant herd of elk came down the mountain on the other side of the road it was incredible. The only thing I wish was different is better instructions for the pellet stove, pictures would be great. Us city dwellers have no idea how to work those things or even which part is the damper and which part is the hopper. Thankfully there was wifi so we googled it on our phones. There is wifi but we did not have cell phone coverage and we were happy about that. The stars were exactly as pictured, absolutely stunning. There was a queen size bed and then a futon, also a bed up in the loft but that is not a good idea with small children, we didn't allow ours up there unsupervised, would be really fun for older children though. The radio was broken/missing and the wifi wasn't strong enough for music so if silence bothers you bring something to play.

Magical Yurt
We loved this property!! The host was extremely responsive and helpful! It is truly a magical place with wonderful views and very nice indoor accommodations. We visited in an unusually warm January weekend and were pleasantly surprised how warm the yurt was (55-60 degrees with the stove). The entire stay we were discussing other times we could make another trip out and how fun all the seasons would be in this space. Highly recommend!

Incredible Yurt, location, and owner
Nick is probably the best owner I have ever dealt with. I booked way in advance and needed to make some changes to the reservation which he always accommodated and didn't make me feel like I was being a burden. He checked in when we were on our way to make sure we had everything we needed and gave a key recommendation to pick up groceries in Grand Junction before we arrived (although the place was already stocked with essentials like spices/cooking oil/etc.). The yurt is incredible, we used the pellet stove and the wood stove on different chilly October nights and kept the place very cozy. We really enjoyed the incredible fall colors across the canyon and listening to the elk bugle at night while sitting around the campfire gazing at the stars and roasting marshmallows. We stayed for 3 nights and loved it for the hiking, exploring, and the opportunity it provided to relax and enjoy a part of Colorado that really deserves more attention for its natural beauty.

Stars galore!
We just wrapped up a two night stay at Nick's yurt. Our five year old daughter was thoroughly impressed with the hummingbirds that hang out by the back porch! My husband was blown away with the star watching. I was happy to have a place to relax and enjoy being with my family. Nick goes out of his way to communicate and keep the yurt extremely clean. Check out the Gateway car museum- it's impressive! And go for a hike- the trailhead near 135 is easy and fun if you want a safe hike with kids. We all loved the yurt experience and will definitely stay in one again!

Unique and peaceful
This was our first time staying in a yurt. It was great! We even talked about how we could see ourselves living in one. The views were breathtaking, there are trails nearby, and it is so very quiet. We have never stayed in a place that peaceful. There are a herd of elk across the way and we enjoyed watching them grazing and playing in the water. This place is worth a stay! Very relaxing!

To keep it short and sweet....
The property is beautiful. The yurt is a clean and comfortable place to cook yummy meals, and to relax in the warmth of the wood burning stove. If you're looking for a peaceful place to enjoy the outdoors, this is it. On our last night we listened to the coyotes and watched a herd of elk graze in the field below us. The stars really are amazing! Absolutely no complaints. Great place, great host.
