The best areas to stay in Athanatoi are the Old Town for a historic experience and the coastal areas for a relaxing beach stay.

The Old Town is Athanatoi's historic center, characterized by its narrow, winding streets, Venetian architecture, and ancient stone buildings. It's largely a pedestrian-only zone, making it ideal for walking and exploring. Landmarks like the Venetian Harbor and the Lighthouse are central to this area. This district is particularly appealing to couples seeking a romantic and culturally rich experience, with numerous tavernas and artisan shops located within its alleys.

For those prioritizing relaxation and beach access, the coastal areas just outside the Old Town, such as Nea Chora to the west, are excellent choices. Nea Chora has its own sandy beach with calm waters, along with a promenade lined with seafood restaurants.

The best time to go to Athanatoi is during the shoulder seasons of April to early June and September to October. These periods offer comfortable weather, fewer crowds, and a more pleasant experience overall.

During these months, the temperatures are warm enough for swimming and sunbathing, typically ranging from the mid-60s to low 80s Fahrenheit (18-28°C), but without the intense heat of mid-summer. The sea is also warm enough for enjoyable dips. Couples seeking a romantic getaway will appreciate the quieter beaches and the opportunity to explore ancient sites and charming villages without the bustling crowds.

For solo travelers looking for a relaxed yet engaging trip, these shoulder seasons provide an ideal balance. You'll find most restaurants and attractions open, but with shorter queues and more personalized service.
