The Sunshine Summit House is a prestigious 4,328-square-foot mountain estate designed for those seeking privacy and rest in an elite, high-end sanctuary that is easily reachable in the premier Sunshine Canyon mountains above Boulder, Colorado. Formerly the private refuge of a legendary Beach Boys producer and a hidden retreat for movie stars, producers, NFL icons, musicians, executives, and wellness retreats, this extraordinary residence carries a rare heritage of privacy and world-class design. Positioned on a secluded two-acre mountain-top lot with sweeping, unobstructed views of the Continental Divide and the jagged peaks of the Rockies, it offers the ultimate setting for corporate retreats, luxury weddings, bachelorette weekends, intimate mountain proposals, and sophisticated family gatherings. With views that will make you feel completely separated from the pressures of normal life, you will be surprised to find an easy drive of only 10 minutes to Pearl Street mall, a paved driveway with ample parking, and a beautifully appointed interior. As one of our well-traveled and famous guests recently wrote to us, "there is simply nothing else like it available."
We invite you to step into a realm of refined "mountain-modern" elegance where high-end art, premium architectural design, and state-of-the-art technology harmonize to give you a home base for living your best life. The heart of the home features a majestic dining area anchored by a striking selenite chandelier with seating for ten, set against soaring panoramic windows that bring the mountain landscape indoors. The gourmet kitchen is a true culinary delight outfitted with Taj Mahal quartzite surfaces and top-tier Miele appliances, creating an ideal setup for private chef experiences, rehearsal dinners, or preparing local finds from the Boulder Farmers Market. Integrated Sonos audio flows seamlessly through the primary suite and expansive living areas to create the perfect ambiance throughout your stay.
The estate is built for high-end relaxation, private group entertainment, and romantic celebrations. The dedicated lower-level entertainment zone, complete with a private cinematic theater featuring plush leather recliners, alongside a game room equipped with air hockey, shuffleboard, and foosball, will help create lasting memories.
Outside, the property transforms into a multi-zone outdoor paradise. Guests can soak in a custom eight-person cedar hot tub crafted specifically for stargazing, practice sunrise yoga on the private eight-person yoga and Pilates deck, or unwind on four extra wide hammocks nestled beneath the pines. Dining outdoors is effortless with multiple alfresco spaces, including table seating for 16 just outside the kitchen, additional picnic table dining by the hammocks, and cozy seating surrounding a mountain-view firepit. This property has multiple seating areas thoughtfully arranged to allow guests to grab a book or journal, a nice cup of coffee, and just relax in the moment and find their center.
For couples, brides, and bridal parties, The Sunshine Summit House is an idyllic destination for unforgettable romantic milestones. The private deck and high-elevation grounds provide a breathtaking, photogenic backdrop for sunset wedding proposals, engagement photo shoots, and intimate vow renewals. Bridal parties can enjoy an elevated bachelorette getaway filled with champagne toasts by the firepit, spa days utilizing the hot tub and private yoga deck, and plenty of space for hair and makeup prep under natural mountain light. Whether hosting an intimate micro-wedding gathering, a wedding-weekend home base for the wedding party, or an anniversary celebration, the estate offers unmatched romance and privacy. University of Colorado students, parents, and families can have the ideal base for activities while CU Buff fans and alumni come together to remember good times and days gone by. Looking to get the guys or gals together for hiking and trail running before the big game? Look no farther.
A stay at this high-altitude haven off Sunshine Canyon Drive serves as the ultimate basecamp for multisport training, placing athletes in the heart of Colorado’s endurance community. High-altitude running paths and mountain hiking trails sit right outside your door, while Sunshine Canyon provides a legendary Category 1 bike climb right from the driveway. Aquatic training is exceptionally accessible, featuring short 25-meter and long 50-meter lap lanes at Scott Carpenter Pool (~15-minute drive), Spruce Pool (~12-minute drive), North Boulder Recreation Center (~10-minute drive), and Genesis Health Clubs - Boulder (~12-minute drive), alongside premier open-water swim training at the Boulder Reservoir (~20-minute drive). It is the perfect setup for targeting marquee regional triathlons—such as Ironman 70.3 Boulder, the Boulder Peak Triathlon, and the Ironman 70.3 Boulder Reservoir events, as well as nearby Denver-area competitions like the Harvest Moon Triathlon in Aurora. After demanding workouts, the home fosters complete recovery and healthy living: hit the outdoor pullup and pushup station for bodyweight functional strength, unwind in the soothing outdoor cedar hot tub, practice morning yoga on the spacious deck, and recharge in pure mountain air.
Advanced infrastructure ensures complete peace of mind, featuring dual Tesla Powerwalls, a 24-panel photovoltaic solar system, high-speed Starlink satellite internet, a private well, and a universal EV charger. Arrive effortlessly with a paved parking area designed to accommodate over 12 vehicles (although we encourage and recommend carpooling), safely servicing large private groups, bridal parties, executive guests, and multi-family stays.
Trailhead adventures begin right at your doorstep with rapid access to Boulder’s world-renowned hiking network. Take a short drive to iconic Chautauqua Park to tackle the classic Chautauqua Trail or the steep, rewarding climb up Royal Arch for stunning sandstone formations and city panoramas. Challenge yourself on the rigorous Mount Sanitas Trail—a local favorite for sunrise training runs—or push for high-altitude summits along Bear Peak via Fern Canyon and South Boulder Peak. For a gentler, paved stroll along bubbling waters, the Boulder Creek Path meanders right through town, while Eldorado Canyon State Park offers dramatic red-rock canyon walls and world-class climbing routes just minutes away.
Beyond the trails, the property puts you in prime position for the vibrant spirit of CU Boulder and University of Colorado athletics. Experience the electric game-day energy at Folsom Field for CU Buffs football games, catch Division I basketball and marquee events at the CU Events Center, or explore campus traditions, graduation celebrations, and academic conferences. Film lovers enjoy a premier home base for the Sundance Film Festival and the Boulder Film festival, while music fans are just minutes from historic shows at the Boulder Theater and Macky Auditorium. Downtown, you are ten minutes from the Michelin-star dining, art galleries, and upscale shopping along the Pearl Street Mall.
Visiting for the holidays? We put up beautiful holiday decorations every year. The Denver and Boulder area transforms into a vibrant winter wonderland from late November through December, offering a mix of urban holiday cheer, festive alpine traditions, and stunning outdoor light displays. Over Thanksgiving weekend, visitors can kick off the season in Denver by sipping spiced Glühwein at the authentic German-style Denver Christkindlmarket, browsing unique hand-crafted goods at the Cherry Creek Holiday Market, or ice skating at the outdoor McGregor Skate rink. In Boulder, the historic Pearl Street Mall comes alive with the annual "Switch on the Holidays" grand illumination of the Pearl Street mall (which is free and one of the best light displays around), local holiday pop-ups, and the charming "St. Nick on the Bricks" visits. As Christmas approaches, the region glows under world-class light installations, including the immersive Blossoms of Light at the Denver Botanic Gardens, the towering 110-foot digital Mile High Tree, and Zoo Lights at the Denver Zoo. Culture lovers can catch seasonal classics like Colorado Ballet's "The Nutcracker" or "A Christmas Carol" at the Denver Center for the Performing Arts, while outdoorsy families can pair daytime snowshoeing or hiking in the nearby foothills with evening strolls through Boulder’s lit downtown streets or the whimsical Camp Christmas immersive art pop-up.
Beyond Boulder, you are central to Colorado’s top mountain destinations within a two-hour drive: hit the slopes at Eldora Mountain Resort (35 mins), explore Rocky Mountain National Park and Estes Park (45 mins), catch iconic concerts at Red Rocks Amphitheatre (45 mins), or take day trips to Summit County's world-class ski areas like Winter Park, Loveland, Arapahoe Basin, and Breckenridge.
The Sunshine Summit House is also the ultimate luxury decompression landing pad after an intense Colorado ski trip, honeymoon, or backcountry mountain adventure. We have many guests who stop at our home to rest after skiing in Aspen and before catching their outbound flight. Conveniently located just under an hour from Denver International Airport (DEN), it offers the perfect high-altitude sanctuary to rest, soak in the hot tub, and recharge in complete tranquility before catching your flight home.

Our stay in this amazing home was absolutely incredible! The views were breathtaking from almost every window of the house and the home was even better than advertised. Every detail was thoughtfully done, and the house had everything we could possibly need to feel comfortable and relaxed. Waking up in the master bedroom, surrounded by windows and views from all three sides was an incredible experience! It almost felt like we were on top of a mountain, but were only 10 mins from town and all the shops and restaurants. It was spotless, beautiful, and truly the perfect place to stay. We couldn’t have asked for a better experience and absolutely can’t wait to stay here again!
If this place is available look no further you have found the right spot. Every detail that you can think of was thought of. Pretty sure if you type into chat gpt “perfect mountain home boulder” this place will pop up. This home is not made to be a rental. EVERY detail was thought of when creating this space. The views are amazing! Each room has pottery barn throws and high end furniture! The kitchen is 5 years ahead of time as far as appliances go! The owners were so responsive that it made me wonder if I wasn’t speaking to CHAT GPT. I highly recommend this place. I’m hoping that I can book again! BOOK IT!
This property is truly a rare find in Boulder, offering a perfect balance of luxury, privacy, and accessibility. We had an incredible stay and cannot recommend it highly enough. One of the absolute highlights was the stargazing hammock zone. It easily accommodated all eight of us, providing a unique and tranquil space to unwind under the stars after a long day. It’s rare to find an outdoor feature that scales so well for a group while remaining so comfortable. For those looking to stay active, the setup is ideal. The direct access to mountain trails made for challenging and scenic morning runs, and the outdoor exercise area with a pull-up bar and space for push ups allowed for a full training session right on the property. Being able to move from the trails straight into a workout with a view, then to grab a quick shower before jumping in the cedar hot tub was a huge plus. Despite the feeling of being tucked away in a private retreat, the proximity to the Pearl Street Mall is fantastic. We were able to enjoy the best dining and shopping in Boulder within minutes, making the logistics of the trip effortless. We had a romantic dinner at Bramble and Hare that was a culinary delight! We are already planning a return trip for the Sundance Film Festival in January. This home is perfectly situated to serve as a high-end home base for the festival, providing the right mix of proximity to the action and a secluded, luxurious atmosphere to retreat to. We can't wait to be back!
This property is, without a doubt, the best VRBO in Boulder! Having stayed at high-end rentals worldwide, I can confirm this is a one-of-a-kind experience that is even more luxurious than the photos suggest. Formerly owned by a legendary Beach Boys producer and host to NFL stars and rock icons, this architectural masterpiece perfectly blends high-end design with the raw beauty of the Rockies. Every window frames breathtaking views, complemented by top-tier touches like a stunning selenite chandelier and Taj Mahal quartz countertops. What makes this a true hidden gem is the total privacy of an exclusive mountain enclave combined with surprisingly fast city access; it is a mere 10-minute drive to the Boulder Theater and 15 minutes to Macky Auditorium. We even tested the routes for our return trip during the 2027 Sundance Film Festival. Nightly soaks in the custom eight-person cedar hot tub under the stars were a major highlight, as was the elite entertainment in the theater and game rooms. Furthermore, the peace of mind provided by off-grid capabilities like Tesla Powerwalls and Starlink internet made our stay completely stress-free. This is a first-rate, high-value sanctuary with no equal in the area. Book this property for an unforgettable Rocky Mountain experience—you simply cannot miss it.
Everything about our stay was exactly as we hoped it would be. The House was beautiful and the amenities were great. The setting is stunning with amazing views. I highly recommend this house!
The Summit Mountain House Boulder exceeded every expectation we had in a property. It is by far the standard of how I will rate every experience from here on out. From cleanliness to how the property was stocked to comfort to views and just pure luxury. It was special and we loved everything about the stay. The owners were wonderful to deal with, very kind and accommodating. The summit house is just a special place all the way around, we will be back.
This was hands-down our favorite VRBO rental. Our family of 5 (one already at CU-Boulder) got together for a long weekend. I imagine you'd get five different answers as to what we loved the most about the stay. Our oldest daughter appreciated the stargazing, wildlife and tranqullity that the semi-remoteness afforded. Our HS-age daughter absolutely loved the cedar hot tub, the impeccable design details and smart aesthetic & functional choices made throughout. Our 9-year old son was in heaven with the game room and movie room downstairs. Shuffleboard, air hockey, foosball provided a truly fun mini-arcade experience. This would be a truly special room for 2 younger kids but we made do with a father-son rivalry with son often emerging the victor through questionable rulings. My wife found a home in the well-stocked coffee bar though she also just soaked in some of the finer points of luxury and just the openness of the main floor. The windows on the main floor just made the room feel larger than a house. At one point, I was outside, looking in through the windows, through the kitchen, into the living room and saw my most loved people all sitting around laughing and just felt complete. I could go on about the Blackstone grill, the Sonos sound system that we had playing nonstop, the ease of operating electronics, attention to detail, politeness of the hosts but in the end, it's just a truly splendid property with something for everyone. Oh... And the views were breathtaking!
