The room was lovely, the shower perfect and dinner was delicious. They provided a bag lunch on request for our next day. They work well with the cougar line and our bags were in our room when we arrived. After hiking the \~10 miles on the first day through a symphony of cicadas and outstanding views, feeling hot and tired, we walked into the magical oasis that is Furneaux Lodge. The setting is absolutely dreamy with a large grassy yard leading down to a pretty beach. It feels tranquil and elegant. We'd splurged on a suite and were astounded by how beautiful it was. The suites are two to a building and set off on one side of the property. Ours was huge with a large living area, a separate bedroom and a big bathroom with a large shower with fluffy towels. The decor was beautiful and there was even AC (!) which meant that we were able to sleep well that night. One small but appreciated touch was the little package of cookies in the room to go with morning tea/coffee and also instant decaf coffee (it was the only place with decaf in the room in our month of travel in NZ). After a day of hiking, it felt great to spend some time in the hot tub and then have a drink on the main building's pretty verandah. The bartender was very sweet and let us taste several beers and ciders before deciding on one. The one downside to Furneaux, though, is that there are no other dining options nearby and their restaurant is NOT vegetarian-friendly. There was only one vegetarian entree and no vegan ones. The location is stunning, the staff are very pleasant & helpful, it's such a beautiful place to explore or relax and well worth a stay when doing the Queen Charlotte track. The staff were very attentive and pleasant. It was warm, comfortable and private. Furneaux team were AMAZING! They were friendly, nothing was too hard and they were just a great bunch of people. Accommodation was fantastic... views were beautiful. Disability room was so well set up and accessible The Queen Charlotte track is just behind the lodge and some great short or long walks. Ate far too much food as it was all so good !.
