Situated on an 8.5 acre exotic fruit farm along the Hamakua Coast, Royal Palm Cottage will provide you real feeling of Hawaii country living. A view of Mauna Kea greets you as you drive up Chin Chuck Road, known for the well manicured, 10 acre farm lots. As you enter the estate you will marvel at the breathtaking views of mature Royal Palms, 30 foot tall Black Bamboo, ocean views and many tropical Hawaiian flowers. Famed Akaka Falls State park is just 6 miles away. The night skies are perfect for stargazing. As the sun rises, common country sounds of rain, roosters, cows, birds, owls, hawks, coqui frogs & dogs can be heard. We have a designated path with chairs set up for watching the sun rise. A boarding dog Kennel shares a portion of the property. Barking can be heard 8-10 am during feeding times or if wild pigs are roaming. It is best if our guests are lovers of dogs, man's best friend.

The evenings are perfect for star gazing thru the royal palms.

A Romantic, newly built private 1 bedroom, 1 bath with tiled shower, kitchenette, dinning area and living room will welcome you home after a day of exploring. Amenities include a Propane Fire pit, BBQ grill, dry sauna, Koa wood floors, queen bed, air conditioning, ceiling fan, sofa that converts to a single bed, dimmable lights and a private lanai. The colors are cool and relaxing for the nature enthusiast. Perfect for a lovely romantic retreat, anniversary, Honeymoon or just a visit on the Hamakua side of the Big island.

1 or 2 bed room cottage studio will be available to book 11-1-2022. inquire for details.

Just 15 miles from Hilo, 30 miles from Waipio Valley, 1 hour from the Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. Over 200 mature fruit trees are on property. Seasonal Lychee, Emperor Lychee, Rambuton, Mango, Mangosteen, Atemoya and Papaya will be included in the welcome/Breakfast fruit bowl. We may have a litter of puppies 2-3 times a year on the property. Puppy noises , some barking can be heard during business hours, feeding times 8-10. Smoking allowed on Lanai ONLY ( please close glass sliding door).

Stayed two nights in Dec 2023. Beautiful yard, great location. Very clean and it has all the stuffs you would need. Owners are very friendly and accommodating; we even got a tour on the property in the morning of check out day. But air conditioner in the living room is pretty loud. Sofa bed can only fit one person and it’s not very comfortable if you are adult and have to sleep on the floor mats. In overall, it’s a great place.

Nice place. Its a little far away from facilities but I liked the isolation. One thing : it can get noisy at night due to invasive coqui frogs, but that's life on this side of the island.

Nice place but a squeeze for 4 adults
We enjoyed our stay at this place. The owners were very nice and helpful. Enjoyed the fruit plate and had a nice BBQ in the evening. My husband enjoyed the sauna. The space fit 4 adults but not very comfortably - the sofa bed was small and uncomfortable and the extra floor mattresses may work well for kids but not adults. As was pre-warned, the dogs did bark which didn't bother me but kept others in my group awake at night.

Rainforest Stay
Love the location of this property. Close to many things that we love, and a short drive into Hilo. Owner was friendly and accomodating, but not intrusive. We were welcomed with some wonderful local fruit. The only thing that was a drawback was a dog kennel on the property. I think that should be mentioned on the website. When we first arrived, the dogs would not stop barking, and it went on for hours. When we later discovered the property manual, it said that the house and windows are well insulated, and they certainly are! When we closed the windows and turned on the A. C., we couldn't hear the dogs, so we had restful nights. The next morning, as long as we stayed on the lanai, they didn't bark, so you could enjoy the beautiful view. I loved the setting, and did not regret staying there. The cottage had everything you needed, very clean, and nothing was required before you left but to put your used towels in a basket!

Hosts had a wonderful spread of delicious fruits and treats and equipped with my morning coffee. Clean and serene place. Only downfall was perhaps a dog that barked throughout the night, perhaps a new boarder that missed its owner? Other than that it was a beautiful place to stay.

Lovely estate
Royal Palms is a beautiful property with mature gardens. Cottage was well equipped with essential needs. Cottage is in close quarters with property owners residence but they were very accommodating.

Palm cottage.
The property is well kept. Lots of rain when we were there. Because off the weather, we spent a lot of our time inside. The furniture is definitely the most uncomfortable of any location we have stayed in. The bed was great. Nothing to do so I went out to the sauna and found a note that it was out of order.---service advertised and not provided- nor was there any offer of reimbursement. For some people, the dogs would be a problem. we have dogs and that was not a problem for us. We are both 76 years old and the steps up and down to the cottage were a problem when carrying groceries. Would no be a problem for younger people.

Staying at the Royal Palm Cottage was a transformative experience! The cottage is kept in impeccable condition and has everything you need to feel “right at home”. Beautiful property, very nice clean room. Host was super nice, gave helpful suggestions in places to go. The dogs did do a lot of barking after hours and early in the morning. The kennel is rather close to the room so I’m sure that adds to the sound. I have dogs so I didn’t think I would be bothered by it but they aren’t kept outside so they don’t hear and bark at everything. Otherwise a very pleasant comfortable place

Paradise within Paradise
This place is absolutely beautiful. There is a small trail behind the trees that leads to some chairs perfectly situated to watch the sunrise. I spent my night looking up through palm trees at the stars and listening to the frogs' sing. Yes, at times dogs barked, but it never once bothered me and it was coming from everywhere. Inside the place very nice. A nice open living room eating area and kitchen. A big bathroom with a very nice shower and a nice bedroom. Although, I recommend spending most of your time sitting on the patio of their beautiful back yard.
