We had an excellent stay at Yoruba over 2 nights in October. Miya & his team were fantastic - very welcoming! The food produced by the dining team was wonderful - both dinner & breakfast. And special thanks to Tsuki for looking after us. Would recommend a stay here.

The staff at the ryokan were excellent, super kind and helpful. However, also a bit disorganized. We were asked three times to fill out the registration card after we had already checked in. Most disturbingly, a staff member entered our room after 9 PM without knocking and, for some reason, demanded to see our key. When we then complained at the front desk, we got a very Japanese too-embarrassed answer rather than addressing our complaint. The dinners were superbly presented, but uneven in quality. The sashimi course on the first night was barely edible, and we love sashimi. But most of the rest of the meals were excellent. And a suggestion, take a room on the second floor. The walls are paper thin, of course, but so is the ceiling it seems, and we were kept awake by the movement of the guests above us. The ryokan is in a stellar location, and we enjoyed our stay, but there is room for improvement, for sure.

Achi Shrine (阿智神社) is a 1,700 year old shrine which sits atop Mount Tsurugata (鶴形山) in the city of Kurashiki, located in Okayama prefecture. This mountain is located in the corner of Kurashiki's historical quarter and in the olden days it was an island surrounded by the waters of the Seto Inland Sea (瀬戸内海). For that reason, Munakata Sanjojin (宗像三女神), known as the three goddesses of the sea and voyages, is enshrined here. It's a lovely place to visit, not only for the shrine but also for it's view of the city below. There's also a park behind the shrine, famous for the old wisteria tree
