The best area to stay in München is the Altstadt (Old Town) for its central location and access to major sights, or Maxvorstadt for a more relaxed, cultured experience.Altstadt is the historical heart of München, easily walkable and home to iconic landmarks like the Marienplatz with its Glockenspiel, the Frauenkirche, and the Viktualienmarkt. This area is ideal for first-time visitors who want to be steps away from the city's main attractions and have a wide selection of restaurants and shops. Its compact layout makes it easy to navigate on foot. For couples looking for a sophisticated yet less tourist-centric area, Maxvorstadt is an excellent choice. This district is known for its impressive museums, including the Alte Pinakothek and the Glyptothek, as well as the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität.

For pleasant weather and a full range of outdoor activities, the best time to visit Munchen is during the late spring (May to early June) or early autumn (September).Late spring offers comfortable temperatures, typically ranging from 50-70°F (10-20°C), making it ideal for exploring the city's parks, beer gardens, and outdoor attractions like the English Garden. The trees are green, and flowers are in bloom, creating a picturesque setting for sightseeing and strolls along the Isar River. This period is particularly good for couples who enjoy walking tours and outdoor dining without the larger crowds of summer.Early autumn, specifically September, provides similar mild temperatures and is famous for Oktoberfest, though this draws significant crowds and increases prices. If you're not attending Oktoberfest, early September still offers beautiful fall foliage, comfortable weather for exploring, and a slightly less crowded experience than the peak summer months.
