Our 2 bedroom guest house, with a rural, idyllic, secluded feel, is only a lovely stroll of less than 3/4 of a mile to the heart of downtown Nevada City. Not just a 'vacation rental'. It is a meticulously maintained 1,100 sf home -- Totally separate, private, sophisticated, quiet, one-of-a-kind, architecturally designed, light filled retreat down a long and private driveway.
Honeycomb Ranch is a non-smoking property located in a 'neighborhood' of 4 ranchettes, each 5 acres apart. It is the perfect retreat/get-away for a couple or a couple of friends or a small family.
The large master bedroom is located at the end of the hall and has a new pillowtop kingsize mattress and a sliding glass door opening onto the deck with meadow and forest views. The second bedroom is smaller but has a very comfortable new pillow-top queen size bed, nightstands and a dresser. There is an additional closet in the entry way if hanging space is needed. (See 'Property Details' for additional information.) The furniture in the living room is extremely comfortable, the kitchen is fully equipped and the views from every window are exquisite.
Added bonuses include wheelchair accessibility, unlimited satellite channels on TV, an electric car hook up, an expandable dining room table (can seat 6-8) and an antique tool museum located in our barn.
Just bring your suitcase. Everything else is provided to make your stay relaxing and fun.
Wake up to the sound of birds and end the night on the deck gazing at millions of stars. It is easy to unwind in this special home with its zen-like feel situated on 5 pastoral acres of open meadows, pine, oak and fruit trees, organic gardens and a picturesque old barn. Wonderful, easy country walks from your door abound and hiking is minutes away. Tucked away in a hidden place with such a rural feel, you will be amazed to find what a very short and easy walk it is past beautiful Victorians to the bustling, historic, charming Gold Country downtown of Nevada City. In combination with 'Twin City' Grass Valley, 3 miles away, there is more than an abundance of great restaurants, world class live entertainment, shops, galleries and museums to keep you busy.
If you are parents or grandparents with family living here you want to visit, it is the perfect spot. If you live in San Francisco and want to make a quick getaway out of the fog, it is just a 2 1/2 hour drive. Reno is only an hour and 15 minutes away and Sacramento is just an hour. Easy drives to come to a 'world away'! Anytime is the right time to make your reservations. Nevada County boasts a gorgeous, eastern style Fall with brilliant color everywhere. You don't even have to leave our property to see an unbelievable display of Fall colors. There are huge crafts faires over Thanksgiving weekend and there are classical music festivals in the Fall and throughout the year. Professional theater and our Center for the Arts concerts and events take place year round. In the winter, the towns of Nevada City and Grass Valley both hold street fairs in the month of December prior to Christmas and the towns are decorated to look like something out of a Victorian fairy tale. Winter brings ski-ing and within an hour, you can be at major ski resorts in Lake Tahoe. In the spring, quince, daffodils and everything else is in bloom, frogs are croaking and the river will be flowing. In the summer, you can swim in our magnificent Yuba River, hike, stroll to Farmers Markets, attend music festivals and just enjoy. Weddings abound in our area from Spring through the Fall so if you are part of the wedding party or a guest coming from out of town, make your reservations now. Staying in our guest house instead of a hotel will make the event that much more memorable.
The Yuba River and Nevada City's Scotts Flat Lake are each only 10 minutes away and the North Shore of Lake Tahoe is an hour. Reserve some time now to stay at Honeycomb Ranch in the Winter, Spring, Summer or Fall before it gets all booked up.
If you like outdoor activities, relaxing, eating gourmet food, theater, musical events including classical music festivals that rival San Francisco and shopping in boutiques, and/or sitting quietly reading a book or meditating while watching birds soaring overhead, you will enjoy staying at Honeycomb Ranch while taking in all that Nevada County has to offer.

My sister and I stay here at least once a year and it’s consistently wonderful. Clean, quiet, private, such a respite and release from the everyday. Highly recommend!
We loved this little guest house. It was beautifully furnished and had an amazing view out the back. We ate breakfast each morning on the very private back patio and enjoyed the expansive meadow view. Everything was clean, lovely, and worked well. We were very close to downtown Nevada City and several great swimming spots on the yuba (20 min drives). Hosts were super responsive and very friendly. We were delighted with our stay.
What I found is a beautiful little house tucked away in a hollow very close to downtown Nevada City. While there are other homes all around it, I was impressed by how quiet the place is at night. I like the place a lot, and plan to stay there again when I can spend more time.
My wife and I enjoyed the quiet and lovely qualities of the home. Outside of the house we saw California quail, finches, and jays. In addition, there was a lovely frog chorus every night. Beautiful and relaxing. We hope to visit again.
Nice property only a mile from downtown Nevada City. Owners live next door. Quiet and clean. Nothing fancy but had everything we needed. Enjoyed it very much and would definitely like to return.
Simply amazing custom designed house tucked into the woods. Theres so many nice varieties of plants around the property and its very quiet and peaceful. The hosts are friendly. Only a minute from Nevada City. Highly recommended. Thank you Nina and Mike!
Honeycomb Ranch is a lovely small house in the woods just north of downtown Grass Valley. You can easily walk into town and enjoy the beautiful woods and old houses on your way into town. Even on a rainy day, the scenery is gorgeous from the back deck. Owners were friendly and the inside furnishings are new and very comfortable. Everything we needed in the kitchen and bath. Recommended!

Our Second Stay at the Snegg's Ranch
This is the second year that we stayed in Nina and Mike’s wonderful house in the Nevada City area. The secluded house is behind their home and has its own private patio deck which overlooks a beautiful green field with a surrounding forest. One day a doe and two fawns were grazing below the deck. The deck is a quiet and peaceful place to have morning coffee. The owners give you your privacy but are also there if you need help with the house or directions to the many places to visit in the area.
Our favorite place to eat is the Northridge Restaurant which is a half mile walking distance from the house. They have good hamburgers and pizza. Outside of Nevada City and Grass Valley fine restaurants we found a 50s/60s style restaurant called “The Willo Steak House” that serves great steaks. We also found a beautiful historic trail next to the Yuba River to take a walk or a good hike. The “Independence Trail” takes you in the old mining canal and across rebuilt plumes.
Also be sure to get Barley treats from Nina. Barley is their dog and he is a big part of their Ranch. My wife and I miss Barley and Nina and Mike.
Very peaceful location, clean and just perfect. Close to downtown, but still felt like we were in a remote location which was awesome. Really enjoyed our stay and would stay again on our next trip to Nevada City
From the minute we opened the front door, we knew we were going to love it. Everything was so simple and immaculately clean. Skylights and walls placed strategically made everything pleasantly bright. The bathroom was roomy and the shower was as well. The beds were super comfortable, and the master offered a lovely view of the trees to wake up to. The deck was well maintained with a nice table and large umbrella. My sister and I enjoyed sitting out there in the afternoon having a glass of wine in the quiet and private surroundings. Nina is a most gracious host, and we were in want of nothing.
Don’t hesitated on this one. You won’t be disappointed. We are definitely staying here again.
Perfect spot for a girlfriends getaway! This sweet little cottage has the feel of a remote, private treehouse, but you're less than a mile from town, and close to gorgeous hiking above the South Yuba River. We spent our evenings sipping wine and stargazing, and our days hiking and exploring Grass Valley and Nevada City. Nina was an amazing host. Don't forget to ask for a tour of Mike's Grass Roots Antique Tool museum, and the studio displaying his museum-quality wood bowls. Thank you for sharing this special place with us!
We were there during a record setting snow storm. Without power for two days. Mike & Nina & an employee of theirs, encouraged us,checked on us, started generator for us, dug our van out of like 18 inches of snow, shoveled walkway, and graded driveway, then led us out to the Freeway, making sure of our safety. Wonderful Hosts!!
We woke to a crystal frozen wonderland after a harrowing trip to Nevada city to meet with our loved ones. Because we had a car accident we were very late but Nina was so sweet to turn the lights down and heat up the house for us. We would definitely enjoy staying here again!
This house is in a beautiful, quiet, and secluded setting and yet is only a 5 minute drive from downtown Nevada City. Members of my family and I are happy repeat customers.
