The self catering holiday accommodation comprises of an open plan kitchen/sitting room with open fire, conservatory, bathroom, double bedroom, twin room and single bedroom. All the bedrooms have spectacular sea views and the garden is fully inclosed with parking for two cars. The cottage has a brand new kitchen which was fitted in Spring 2017.
The Haven is uniquely positioned on the beach and enjoys uninterrupted sea views with direct access onto the beach from the front garden. It is an ideal base for couples, families and groups of up to 5 from which to explore this beautiful area with breath taking scenery.
Golf, bird watching, walking, mountain biking, stargazing, fishing and sailing are all available on your doorstep and with it's famously mild micro-climate and the balmy influence of the Gulf Stream, Galloway is home to some of the most beautiful and exotic gardens in Scotland, not to mention the nearby historic town of Wigtown, Scotland's very own "Book Town".
The Haven was built in 1927 and has been lovingly refurbished and fully modernised by the owners and sleeps 5. All the bedrooms have sea views and all the bedding is provided except towels. A cot (without bedding) is also available. The bedrooms are all on one level, bedroom 1 is a twin bedroom, bedroom 2 is a double bedroom and bedroom 3 is a single bedroom. The bathroom (Please note that there is a step down to the bathroom and it is not suitable for disabled persons). The bathroom has a bath, separate electric shower and a WC. The kitchen/dining area has a table with seating for 6. Fridge Freezer, electric cooker, kettle, toaster and microwave oven. There is ample crockery, cutlery, glasses and cooking utensils and equipment provided as well as kitchen linen and a high chair is available. The sitting room is equipped with a digital TV/DVD as well as an open fire, there is plenty of driftwood on the beach to make wonderful fires. There is a telephone which accepts incoming calls only. At the back of the property is a boot room which contains a washing machine and sink. It is an excellent room to hang up outdoor clothing, storing buckets and spades, fishing rods, golf clubs etc! The conservatory is situated at the front of the cottage, it faces south and has uninterrupted view to the shore and beyond to the Isle of Man, this is a lovely room to eat in, relax and just drink in the views. The garden surrounds the cottage and is completely enclosed and all exits are gated. There is a washing line and two patios complete with garden furniture, sun umbrella and of course a BBQ!
Galloway is without doubt one of the most unspoilt parts of Scotland. It is the perfect place for a holiday and you will leave the area feeling relaxed and refreshed - no matter what the time of year. Port William is only a mile of so from the Haven is the nearest village. It is built around a working harbour where you can watch the fishing boats coming and going. There is a local Spar shop and post office, The Clansman is an excellent bistro/restaurant which serves delicious meals and has a great reputation, early booking is recommended.
Whithorn is Scotland's firstly recorded place of civilisation and in addition they birthplace of Chyristianity and so it is a very important "city" in the history of Scotland. There are a good range of shops in Whithorn and Priory Antiques is a must see! The Whithorn Experience is an exhibition which gives a fascinating insight into the birthplace of Christianity and St Ninian who is credited with bringing Christianity to Scotland in the 4th Century. South-west of Whithorn, St Ninian's Cave at Physgill on Luce Bay is said to be where Ninian retreated periodically for contemplation. The cave is definitely worth a visit.
The Isle of Whithorn is a few miles away from Whithorn which is a fishing village also popular with yachties, it boasts the nationally renowned Steam Packet Inn. It is also home to St Ninian's Chapel.
Wigtown is Scotland's National Book Town and is the location for the annual Wigtown Book Fair which is held in the Autumn and attracts writers and book aficionados from all over the UK. for the rest of the year it boasts about 20 second hand book shops . If you like reading ......
Portpatrick has developed into a golfing, yachting leisure resort. People drive for miles to have fish and chips in the harbour side Crown Hotel. This is just one of the highlights of Portpatrick which is well worth a visit. Boats, golf, cafes, art galleries and gift shops it's all there in Portpatrick. A day trip here should definitely include a visit to the Mull of Galloway lighthouse, the most southerly point in Scotland.
There are many places to visit in the area. The Bladnoch Distillery is 'Scotland's most southerly distillery', go sample the whisky which has been described by a professional connoisseur as having a 'light, fragrant, lemony aroma and a gentle unassertive flavour with fruity tones.'
Cream O'Galloway Ice Cream near Gatehouse of Fleet is one of the visited attractions in the local area. It is an organic dairy farm, luxury ice cream factory, visitor centre, as well as Burger Barn cafe. As well as numerous nature trails for walking or cycling you can also enjoy pedal karting as well as many more outdoor pursuits.
The Cocoa Bean Company, Twynholm offers fun for all the family, kids make chocolate creations in interactive workshops and can then explore the indoor and outdoor play areas.
Castle Kennedy Gardens is described as "one of the showplaces of Galloway". These gardens are located in truly stunning scenery between two natural lochs and extend to 75 acres of landscaped terraces, avenues and gardens. There is a charming tea-room, gift shop, plant centre and children's activities.
Logan Botanic Garden is situated at the south-western tip of Scotland it is unrivalled as the country's most exotic garden. With a mild climate washed by the Gulf Stream, a remarkable collection of bizarre and beautiful plants, especially from the Southern Hemisphere, flourish out of doors. Delicious home cooking can be sampled at the Salad Bar and wide range of plants and gifts are available at the Botanics Shop.
The Mull of Galloway lighthouse exhibition is open daily, the lighthouse Tower is 115 steps up and you will be rewarded with one of the best views in Southern Scotland. There is also an RSPB visitor centre and cafe open daily.
There are many local activities available including golf, walking, mountain biking, fishing, bird watching and star gazing.
That is of course if you can tear yourself away from this Haven!
