If my heaven were a hotel, this would be it.
Gorgeous historic building, sumptuous linens, super helpful and friendly desk attendants and bar/restaurant staff, and a terrific location for exploring. When I arrived, it was very cold and drizzling, but I was welcomed warmly and immediately taken up to my lovely room. The room included a huge deep tub, which felt amazing after a transcontinental flight, and while I soaked, the built-in towel warmer made the super-fluffy towels extra cozy. (Water pressure and heat was excellent, btw, which isn't always the case w/ historic properties.) Basics like the bed, room temp, lighting, WIFI, and clothing storage were all thoughtfully appointed and perfectly functioning. No noise issues.
I appreciated the in-room espresso set up, and room service was quick and delicious for the one meal I had through the hotel restaurant. The bar area was comfy and chic -- velvet reading chairs and little cafe tables. I wished I'd had more time to enjoy it.
Location felt very safe to use as a home base, which was important to me as a solo female traveler. In the evenings, walking back to the hotel was a treat, as you could glimpse stunning interiors inside the beautiful old townhomes all along the canal. A few blocks in one direction was a charming street full of small bistros and shops; the other direction led to the 'Nine Streets' area, which is full of shopping delights and cute restaurants.
I would stay here again in a second. Fabulous.
