8.8/10 Excellent! (3,640 reviews)
A generally good experience in a historic location, but some things to note: a very very small room with no working main light switch, water damage behind the wallpaper, unpainted/ unfinished area under the sink visible from the bathtub, damp and dark space, hallway carpets with a bit of a damp carpet cleaner odour on my floor (5 th) and lots of turning down hallways that took some figuring out. I was there for Ironman and was in a room recessed in from the hallway which was very difficult to manoeuvre a bike in and out of. However, the location was unparalleled - particularly good for Ironman participants but with wonderful access for all to the downtown attractions and tours, right next to the parliament buildings, embassies and museums. The tour of the hotel was informative and worthwhile, the staff were wonderful and the lobby, restaurants and general ambience outside of the room I stayed in was great. I requested a wake up call for 4 am for a flight, and that did not happen - luckily I had a back up. Concierge availability at the desk was hit and miss but when there was one there, they were lovely and helpful. I would recommend taking the Rideau Canal and amphibious bus tours which depart only a block away from the hotel. If you’re more interested in history than modern luxury and willing to make a few compromises with that in mind, this is the place for you. I suspect that those booking more cheaply through third party sites may not be getting the best rooms…
