Turks and Caicos Islands has only allowed tourism within the last 30 years and many houses we saw were concrete, doorless and the residents cooked in fires outside. It was a wonderfully peaceful place to sit and watch the waves and play with all the little lizards who inhabit the island. There are also lots and lots of stray dogs called "pot stickers." We heard you could adopt them of you want to. We saw a momma and her pups come to our villa looking for food. Lots of homes like this pepper the roadsides. A stark contrast to the resorts on Provo, many homes are nothing more than concrete hulls with no electricity or running water.
