I recently returned from an unforgettable stay at Riu Funana in Sal, Cape Verde, and I can confidently say this resort exceeded all expectations.
From the moment we arrived, we were greeted by friendly, professional staff who went above and beyond to make our stay comfortable and enjoyable. Their warm hospitality and attention to detail truly made a difference and elevated the entire experience.
The resort itself is a beautiful oasis nestled in an otherwise arid landscape. Lush gardens, spacious grounds, and well-maintained facilities create a feeling of paradise. But the real showstopper is the stunning beach – imagine turquoise waters lapping against white, powdery sand that stretches for miles. It’s postcard-perfect and ideal for both relaxing and taking in the breathtaking views.
One of the highlights of our stay was the entertainment. The team does a fantastic job, keeping the energy high and the atmosphere lively. A special mention must go to the All White Party on Friday night – an absolutely exceptional event! The music, lights, dancing, and vibe made it one of the most memorable nights of the holiday.
Whether you’re looking to unwind by the pool, explore the island, or enjoy vibrant entertainment in the evenings, Riu Funana has something for everyone. We left feeling refreshed, relaxed, and already planning our return.

The staff were really friendly, especially Erica who went above and beyond — she was just so lovely and welcoming. We paid extra for birthday decorations for our mum’s room, and the team really went the extra mile to make it look beautiful, which made her day feel so special. I wouldn’t class the hotel as a 5*, more of a solid 4*, but I honestly couldn’t fault it and would definitely stay again if I came back to Cape Verde!

Nice hotel with a reasonable choice of food. But hotel mostly full of noisey French people. Entertainment at nightwa oo but would be very monotonous for more than a week! Daytiime entertainmnt (poolside games and archery etc) were catered for the French and other nationalities only invited if there was a poor response from the French!
Beautiful beach but constantly has a red flag so forget about swimming, currents extremely dangerous.
The island is devoid of any scenary, attractions or wildlife. We have travelled extensively all over the world over the years and this is the only holiday where we were glad to leave. There are no trips eecuuetterr iis nothing to see or do on the island. This is holiday for someone who wants to spend their time only on a sunbed drinking alcohol!! Oh by the way you have to be up at 06.30am to put said towel on a sunbed!! By 07.00am all sunbeds are reserved, the French are early risers.

Hard to review stay as I was suffering from after effects (but clear) of recent Novo contracted in UK as lost 8-9 lbs. So did not due what I expected to do & 1/2 way thru stay started to pick up. Room, staff breakfast very good. Had nice trip to Santa Maria they provide for free. Pool fine but used less than expected as not up to it. Snorkelled in small bay up from reception. Good first 2 days last day churned up so visibility issues. Very nice walks N & S of resort on or near beach which I could not exploit as much as wished. Nice meals in afternoon N of reception. Good Super Mercardo on site S of reception

Beautiful hotel close to beach and town. Excellent beach bar with great staff right next to the water and walking distance to any restaurant in town. Also has an extensive lunch menu with a lot of tasty dishes.

It's small, a family run feel, which we like the low key, personal, quiet experience. Paula at reception and all other staff are very welcoming, helpful and friendly. That makes it easy and comfortable. Our room was ideal, good space in a double room, private balcony and beautiful colours of Bourganvillea to admire, a well maintain green garden space and pool in the centre. We had breakfast in the hotel every day, however we were away by day and dined out across the island. Very simple, easy walk down into Santa Maria or across the road to the beach and beach board walk.

The stay at this hotel, my first visit to this island, was excellent. The staff helpful, kind, friendly. I was welcomed nicely and departure was fluid. The pools beautiful. The buffet was always with good food, many options. I was very much recommend a stay here.
