Interior Alaska Vacations from $735

I booked this hotel after reading reviews on Expedia and while the hotel looked older, the reviews didn't seem ~that~ bad (which is why I am leaving this, so others will know). Alaska is very expensive for hotels and I picked this one because it was on the lower end, but I still ended up paying almost $1,000 for three nights. I travel for work, so I see a lot of hotels. The property needs a lot of work--there were visible broken windows, ripped carpeting, the floors in the rooms were sticky (both the tile and carpet), the room smelled like cigarette smoke, there was old food left in the microwave, the hot water didn't work in one of of the sinks, and it's just generally run-down. The staff was mostly nice--when we checked in, the desk clerk wasn't overly friendly, but everyone else we encountered was.

I've stayed here before. This time, pile of cigarette butts on the front stoop. Strange odor. From entry was full of shoes and crap. And the upstairs neighbors were thumping around at 6:30 am and all day, in evening. I couldn't bear to spend another night so I checked into a downtown hotel instead. I'll never be back.

Checkin was weird and a bit creepy. Standing in someone kitchen at their home while they go in a back bedroom to run your card. Not a good check in process. My room had a horrible air freshener smell that actually triggered an asthma attack. Room was also about 85 degrees with no AC. I’m glad I bought a fan at Walmart and took with me. Only thing that made it bearable to get to sleep the first night. Left the window wide open all day on day 2 and it wasn’t to bad that night. Staff was friendly.

Nice little hotel that is way out of town and the road to it can be a mud river when it rains. The amenities were good but there is no staff on site.
