Historic parks and deluxe hotels that overlook the city’s busy streets complement the centers of trade and flashy skyscrapers here.

The Beijing Central Business District is a financial playground full of towers and lights, where some of the world’s most important monetary transactions take place. Media, finance and business powerhouses occupy the dizzying skyscrapers. Snap photos of the shiny façades and glassy exteriors in one of China’s most prominent symbols of its global business reach.

Visit some of the many bars and restaurants at vertigo-inducing heights. At the heart of the city rises the China World Tower, which is slightly cone-shaped, with metallic tiers rippling through its body. Note that it is part of the China World Trade Center complex, consisting of several towers that architecturally resemble New York’s former Twin Towers. Surpassing these behemoths is the China Zun, which reaches a height of 1,732 feet (528 meters). Admire its sleek design and enter the neighboring China World Mall for its range of upscale fashion.

Find more affordable clothes in the Silk Market and haggle for souvenirs in the stores spread across its seven floors. A little northwest is the Temple of the Sun Park (Ritan Park), which dates back six centuries and was the site of sacrifices during the Ming and Qing dynasties. Wander through the scenic grounds, study the temple and relax near the lake.

For something a little different, sip hot beverages at the Central Perk café, which is an accurate replica of the main gathering spot from the TV series Friends. Around the café, which is in the SOHO building, televisions continuously play episodes from the popular show.

The Beijing Central Business District is on the northern side of the Tonghui River, slightly east of the city center. Travel by metro to the Yong’anli or Guomao stations or take a bus to one of the many stops on the main roads. Make your way through the city’s other intriguing areas, including Qiongdao Island, the Jianguoli Community and the Yongdingmen.
