Be prepared to pay a hefty sum to gain entry. We'll visit next time around, but the gate attendant was very nasty. We were walking up and she nastily turned us away, told us we'd need a car to buy a ticket.

If you ever visited Hearst Castle in California, or Vizcaya Museum and Gardens in Florida, and you were impressed by the architecture and gardens, then we suggest visiting this attraction when in North Carolina though the entrance fee is rather pricey. Biltmore is one of the greatest and grandest estates in America. The house is simply gorgeous and opulent and sumptuous. We spent about 3 hours but could have stayed longer. Do not forget to bring your camera.

If you are visiting to see the Downton Abbey exhibit, it is not located in the house, but in two different locations on the grounds. The actual exhibit is at Amherst in the Deerpark area of the property, and the exhibit of the clothes is in one of the buildings near the Village Hotel (you may be able to see the clothes without a ticket if you can get to the hotel area). The exhibit takes at least an hour to really see everything (if its not too crowded), and the clothes exhibit can be seen in about 30 minutes. If you park in the lots, shuttles come around every 20 minutes to take you where you want to go.

If you use Waze, you’ll need a copilot, as the route suggested is maze like.
