Pool villa in peaceful location. Breathtaking views of sea, Mt. Etna & Taormina

'A magical retreat' as featured in The Telegraph (UK).

Welcome to your exclusive retreat in Sicily… Set 'away from it all' on a fabulous hill top position overlooking the sparkling Ionian Sea in the Mediterranean, the villa boasts breathtaking and unrivalled views stretching across from Mount Etna to the surrounding area of Taormina on the east coast of Sicily.

The villa is a traditionally built stone detached property, with air conditioning and its own private 'infinity edge' swimming pool and garden. Completely independent, the villa assures you total privacy. A large panoramic terrace and shaded patio, with a barbecue and woodfired pizza oven, offer ample ‘al fresco' dining space from which, at near 500 meters altitude, you will truly feel on top of the world.

Inside, furnished and equipped to a high standard, the villa provides and caters for the expectations of the discerning modern traveler, whether you are holidaying as a couple, family or with friends. The villa can accommodate up to 8 people (6 adults and 2 kids/teenagers), and has one family bathroom and a smaller bath/toilet.

The charm and attraction of the villa span from having the space and privacy to do whatever you please, at your own pace… to visiting the areas of Taormina, Castelmola and Giardini-Naxos, and local beaches all within a 25-35 minute drive. For sightseeing, Mount Etna, the Alcantara Gorge, Syracuse, the Aeolian islands including Stromboli, the villa provides an excellent and comfortable base in a rural and quiet location.

Whether it is tranquility, culture, sun, beaches, sightseeing or living 'la dolce vita' you are looking for, we welcome you.

Saluti,
Michael & Marianne

IMPORTANT: Info about the road to the villa: The villa is located 500 m above sea level, and is reached in 25 min. from the seaside town Giardini Naxos by a narrow, bumpy and in places steep and very bad asphalt mountain road. The road is not fenced and have steep drops. Some guests do not want to drive the road after dark, and are thus now able to go out for dinner, while others are fine with the road. In general, it requires good driving experience and a confident driver to negotiate the roads in Sicily, especially the one to the villa, but the rewards are one of the best views on the island.

Sustainability: The main CO2 impact of using the villa is electricity for the air condition. However, the hill-side location and design of the villa allow for a natural breeze to enter the villa, which means that air condition is really only necessary for the hottest days of the season.

Our best stay yet.
Having just returned from our third stay in Villa Etna Mare, I can confirm that no matter how many times you ascend the hill to the villa it will never become less awe-inspiring. It is a truly unique outlook that will take your breath away upon arrival. Villa Etna Mare provides absolutely everything you need as a comfortable base to explore Eastern Sicily but it’s so good, and in such a great position, that you could simply lounge away multiple days enjoying the scenery. Everything you could need is present within the villa and all of a great standard; a rustic Sicilian feel with an incredibly well-appointed outside space to wile away the hours. Michael and Marianne are outstanding hosts, with a great knowledge of the area that they are more than happy to share with guests. The pre-trip information received via email, and correspondence throughout is incredibly helpful allowing people to build the perfect trip to Sicily. We will undoubtedly be back for a fourth time soon!

Spectacular views and a great villa
The views from the villa are truly spectacular! The villa has everything you could possibly ask for. Michael is an amazing host and very attentive. We would definitely recommend the “meet and greet” especially if arriving after dark as the road takes a little familiarisation. However the view from the villa is worth journey up. The pool was very welcome and pizza oven was great fun. We would recommend this villa to anyone, it’s a wonderful escape from everyday living. Thank you for a wonderful time.

Great holiday
We’re just home from a fabulous 2 week break at Villa Etna Mare. Michael was a superb host, always on hand and super responsive to our many questions to provide valuable advice to ensure we maximised our holiday. The final stretch of road to the villa is in poor condition and did put us off going out in the evenings. However given the views and tranquility from the villa we were more than happy to stock up on provisions, dine in and enjoy the vista.

Great view...Mediterranean Sea all day long and Etna too. What a great property to just lay back and relax and take it all in. The property is exactly as advertised. The bedrooms stayed cool with each one having its own air conditioning unit. There is a constant breeze all day long which blows through the house keeping it relatively comfortable. The pool toys provided were a nice bonus for the children. We enjoyed our days lounging by the pool and evenings out wining and dining in the local towns nearby (Castelmola, Taormina, and Giardini Naxos). We slipped away for a day trip to the white beaches just south of Syracusa (~1.45 hrs) and also an overnight stay in Cefalu (amazing town and water). This house was simple and comfortable with a beautiful evening/night view of the sea and lights below through a large oversized glass window sliding door. The owner made it really easy to live in the home by providing just about every useful kitchen utensil you can think of. The washing machine works great as does the dishwasher. The extra refrigerator space was nice too. If given an opportunity, we would definitely stay here again.

The most amazing view in Sicily
Amazing house is an absolutely breathtaking location with views that are priceless! Michael is an extremely responsive and proactive host who gave us great recommendations for touring Mt Edna and restaurants by the beach!! The views are very much worth the windy drive up and time lounging by the pool! I would not hesitate to stay there again.

Spectacular views and comfortable villa
The views from the villa were spectacular. The pool and gardens were lovely. The house itself was comfortable and appropriately equipped. However, you should note that the road to the villa is difficult to navigate - it's very narrow, steep and winding, with limited barriers and the condition of the road itself is very poor. If you are not a very confident driver or if your group includes people who do not do well with heights, this could be a deal-breaker. Furthermore, the realistic journey time from Taormina to the villa is 35 minutes plus. The journey time to any shops is 20 minutes plus. That does have the effect of being a very peaceful, tranquil place to be, with the great views, but you should bear that in mind when renting this place. What is maybe not 100% clear in the listing as well is that of the two bathrooms, one is a family bathroom upstairs, but the other (shower) room is downstairs and is also the downstairs toilet with limited additional space. So there is really only 1 main bathroom where you can put all your toiletries etc, so bear that in mind for your family group dynamics. Overall, we loved our time gazing out at the view, but given the challenges of reaching the location, would not return.

A June stay at the most wonderful villa!
Everyone comments about the scary drive up to this villa...and they're right, but OMG it is SOOOooooo worth it!! The villa is perfect, has everything you could ask for, and Michael is incredibly helpful and attentive. We would strongly encourage you to accept the offer of the free 'meet and greet' that involves guiding you through the narrow streets up the mountain to the villa. There are several places where you might take the wrong turn otherwise. We took day trips to Castelmola, Ortygia, the wineries on the flanks of Etna and the mosaics of Villa Romana del Casale. This means we were up and down the mountain several times during our 10-day stay. Eventually, you kind of get used to taking it slowly and steadily. The facilities at the villa include a fabulous pool (not heated, so a bit cold while we were there...but it didn't stop us going in several times) a pizza oven (which we used twice...involving much fun and new skills...and the BBQ. The two bathrooms are on different levels...one upstairs where the bedrooms are and the other downstairs off the kitchen/living/dining room. We ate outside using the table by the pool for almost all meals...it was lovely. We absolutely recommend this villa to anyone. It is so peaceful and relaxing...such an oasis away from the hectic townships and traffic along the coast!

Fantastic villa!
We had an absolutely fantastic stay at Villa Etna Mare. The location was perfect, offering breathtaking views of both the mountains and the sea, including a stunning view of Taormina, and Mt Etna. It was a sight that took our breath away every single day. Michael’s communication, before and after arrival was top-notched. The villa itself was a dream. As a family who loves to cook, we were thrilled to find that the indoor and outdoor kitchen was fully equipped with everything we needed. We enjoyed preparing delicious meals and dining on the terrace, surrounded by the incredible Sicilian landscape and Mt Etna. The highlight of our stay was undoubtedly the lovely pool. It was well-maintained and provided a refreshing oasis where we spent many enjoyable hours. Our 7-year-old child absolutely adored the pool and had endless fun playing in it. We used the meet-and-greet service which I think is a must if you arrive late at night. The directions provided were clear, and although it seems a little challenging at first, the journey was well worth it. The winding roads added to the charm of the area, and we had no difficulties reaching this hidden gem. The villa is in google maps and location is quite accurate. In summary, our stay at this villa was nothing short of perfect. The breathtaking views, and excellent amenities has made our Sicilian holiday better. We would highly recommend this villa to anyone seeking a peaceful retreat with all the comforts of home.

The view from Villa Etna Mare is unparalleled. The host is delightful and every detail of our stay was anticipated. The Villa has everything including a pool, pizza oven, washing machine, and well equipped kitchen. The gardens are beautiful and supply the kitchen. We enjoyed privacy but felt like assistance was readily available. The road does require a confident driver and this is not the best place for people who want to party in town every night. The location was perfect for our group and we would highly recommend Villa Etna Mare for artists, foodies, outdoor enthusiasts, and those who want a stay that is authentically Sicilian.

A lovely villa with outstanding views ideally appointed for friends or family. It's entirely possible to while away entire days just wafting round the pool and looking at the view. BBQ/pizza oven area is a plus, and the kitchen has everything you need (including a big drinks fridge). The journey to the villa from sea level is 'fun' but absolutely worth it.

Etna, Etna, Etna, Mare!!
My wife and I just finished a fabulous week at Villa EtnaMare! As described in the site overview the drive up the hill is a bit of an adventure but ohhh sooo worth it. Arriving at the Villa our first impression was how beautiful the pool and landscaping was. Olive and fruit trees and flowers in full bloom. Just getting out of the car and taking in the sea views and those of Mt Etna were breathtaking. It was a bit ironic that when we first booked the property it was the pictures of the pool overlooking the sea that hooked us. But throughout the week we could not take our eyes off the Mountain! So fascinating throughout the day and spectacular at night! The Villa is amazing. Everything that you would need is available. Comfortable furniture and beds, two great bathrooms, and a super well equipped kitchen! It even has two refrigerators! Who gets two refrigerators?! The pools area is well thought out. Plenty of comfortable lounge options with umbrellas and a beautiful expansive shade tree that makes a perfect viewing spot for Mt Etna. The property location is great for day trips. We were there a week and spent time in Taormina, a lovely albeit touristy town, Catania, Siracusa, and even did a guided hike up to the base of the volcanic cone of Mt Etna. No doubt a highlight of our month long trip to southern Italy. Don’t overlook the smaller town of Giardini Naxos. It’s right at the bottom of the hill and has some great little sea side restaurants. We could not have been happier with our stay. Michael, the owner, was easy to reach and very helpful with any questions we might have had. It is obvious he truly cares about you having the best experience possible. This was our first trip to Sicily and we were blown away! This place is one of the most beautiful, well equipped, and well managed properties we have stayed in. Bravo Michael! We loved it!! 10 Stars!

Beautiful Villa with very nice view on Aetna and the sea.
From the booking until the checkout everything was perfectly organized and very well communicated by the owner. Additional supporting documentation and information helped to get the most out of the stay. The Villa is very well equipped, maintained, and with love to detail. We found everything we needed. Especially the outside with pool, pizza stove, barbecue, and a little garden with almonds, lemon trees, grapes and other fruits is very relaxing and fun to stay during the day. The gardener and the pool man were very friendly and did not disturb our holiday experience. If you want to hear negative experiences it’s hard to find. Only deficit is the 25 minute car ride from Naxos to the Villa with a partly stony road which requires good driving experience. Do not take Google maps alternative routes through the hillside. It takes twice the time and it’s only recommendable to off-road driving fans. Michael, the owner, is very helpful and responds to any communication immediately. Overall it was a great and relaxing experience. If you are lucky, you can enjoy an Aetna lava eruption at night from the distance.

Juste parfait !

Ideal spot for a familiy holiday.
We stayed with our two adult children and their partners for two weeks in this beautiful, tranquil house in the hills under very hot conditions. With a soothing breeze coming up the hill every midday, the nice shady grass under the walnut trees and of course the lovely, clean pool (and the air condition turned on at night), we had a wonderful holiday. The road to the house is definately a challenge, that makes you less inclined to go exploring the surroundings. However, our sporty youngsters managed to run and bike up and down from the house to the coast, and did not mind the challenge of poor road conditions as much as us older folks. The owner Michael was friendly, easy to reach and very helpful. The few minor problems during our stay was solved immediately. He also had plenty of good suggestions for things to do and places to go. We would definitely recommend this place and would love to come back another time.

Imagine….
Imagine, waking up in the morning, open the shutters, and be welcomed by the imposing Mount Etna rising above the morning mists in the valley. Make your coffee on the traditional Italian coffeemaker on the gas stove, and sit on the terrace enjoying it while the sun reflects in the waters of Taormina. Imagine, spending all day relaxing by the pool and in the shade of the walnut tree, reading a book from the book collection, with soft music from the outdoor speakers. Imagine, next day’s biggest problem is to choose between going to the Mt. Etna crater and wine areas, to the hilltop towns of Taormina and Castelmola or simply spend the day on one of the nearby beaches. Imagine, visiting the famous Catania fishmarked, bring home some fresh slices of swordfish, and prepare them on the barbecue, with lemons from the garden, while the sun is setting, and the lights along the coastline start to sparkle as a million stars, with the pool and garden lights adding to the truly enchanting atmosphere. Imagine, that you also can enjoy “la dolce vita” in this fantastic villa. PS. Over the years, we have visited many Vrbo rental villas, and Villa Etna Mare is raking among the very best, plus the information/attention to detail by the owners were great.

We wanted a perfect family vacation; mission accomplished!!!
After not being able to travel for 1½ years due to lock downs, we wanted our first family vacation to be absolutely perfect. We did a lot of research and finally choose Villa Etna Mare for our Sicily trip. We are so happy that the villa delivered everything we hoped, and more. Even without views this would be a fantastic place with exactly the right Italian atmosphere, a great pool and lots of things to see and do in the area. Adding the absolutely amazing views of Mount Etna and the sea makes this place truly unique and we highly recommend to stay here. We just loved the wood fired pizza oven. What a treat to make your own pizzas like a pro, while the kids are playing in the pool. At the same time, the last sunrays of the day color the small mountain in front of the villa deeply orange and Mount Etna is pumping up white smoke. Magical. Only regret is that we did not book 2 weeks. That would leave time to fully relax by the fantastic pool and also allow time for a number of day trips to the many interesting places in this part of Sicily. Finally, the pre-trip information provided by Michael and Marianne, the owners, was great, and it was very nice to also stay in contract with them during our stay to clarify questions and get input on activities.

Found a piece of paradise....
This was just one of the most holiday experiences ever! Exactly what we were looking for. Let's start with the booking & arrival process: Michael and Marianne, the new owners of the property went above and beyond in term of making the whole process an experience - excellent communication, always an answer on any kind of questions - may it be shopping, surroundings - you name it. The property itself if as mentioned in the title a piece of paradise. And as in paradise - it is not so easy to find. The meet and greet person waited for us at the station - and up we went. Tiny little roads winding up the hills (if you have a choice, do not take your 911 Porsche). And, do a solid shopping trip on groceries prior climbing up - Deco Suportmarket in Giardini-Naxos. Because: Once up there, you don't want to leave anymore - the sights are stunning, the house is perfect - fully equipped kitchen, air conditioned sleeping rooms - and a perfect outdoor area with that amazing pool. The pizzas oven and outdoor barbecue enable you to spend all day outside - we went inside only for sleeping:) And do make make too many plans for Sicily...as mentioned: Once up there you don't want to leave anymore! Thanks Michael & Marianne for having us....we'll be back:)

Urlaub vom Feinsten

Gorgeous break
What a lovely property with the most spectacular views. Beautifully and thoughtfully appointed with the best welcome pack I’ve seen in any villa. Very welcome guide up the hill for the first time, seamlessly organised despite easyJet getting us into Catania significantly late (it was Etna’s fault, not easyJet’s to be fair). Etna was quite volatile while we were there, so we could see red lava moving when it got dark on our first night. Elder son is studying geology at uni so apparently this was very exciting (it was really!) We did moderate our plans a little and so didn’t go out in the evenings to avoid the drive up the hill in the dark but our evenings were really lovely eating around the outside table. We had planned lunches out according to recommendations but despite checking websites etc we found a lot of places were only open in the evenings though. Fabulous pool. Very welcome aircon! We didn’t feel we really did Sicily justice to be honest, we went to Taormina and to Etna so we will have to come back again. Thanks to you both especially for being so accessible and checking we were ok.

The winding and steep drive up is everything other reviewers have said - first time is unnerving but you get used to it (and having the guided drive up the first time is such a help). But it is WORTH IT for the amazing view of the Ionian coastline, Taormina, Castelmola and of course Etna. The villa is superbly maintained and furnished to a high standard, and we felt so comfortable and relaxed the moment we stepped inside. Our two girls (aged 9 and 6) were so excited by the pool and would have happily spent the entire week in it! We did venture out though, enjoying Taormina and Gardini Naxos - including a great private boat trip with Blue Diamond Excursions (you can book via their website). The weather was mixed, but mostly sunny and warm enough. One clear night coincided with an eruption from Etna, which we could see with amazing clarity from the patio. An unforgettable experience. The attention to detail, comprehensive instructions, well-stocked amenities and regular check-ins from Dan made this such an easy and stress-free vacation. Thank you!
