Whisky is part of Scottish culture and Talisker is one of the country’s most famous whisky producers. Find out how the popular beverage is crafted here on Skye during a guided tour of the distillery. At the end of the tour, taste the beloved golden elixir and purchase a few exclusive bottles to bring home.

Talisker Distillery was founded and built in the 1830s despite objections from a local reverend. By 1898, it was one of the best-selling single malt whiskies in the country. Visit the Skye distillery to sample and buy some of their award-winning drinks.

Join a tour of the distillery for a behind-the-scenes glimpse into how Talisker whisky is made. A guide will lead you around the facility, explaining the various manufacturing steps from fermentation through to aging and bottling. At the end of the tour, sample a dram of Talisker Scotch whisky.

For a more in-depth tour, opt for the Talisker tasting tour, which not only includes a guide-led distillery tour, but also features a tutored tasting. Try more than five different Talisker products, noting the distinctive characteristics of each.

Visitors who pay for tours are given discount vouchers valid for use in the distillery’s shop. Browse the various bottles on offer and redeem your voucher against a rare special release whisky or branded souvenir.

Outside the distillery, take a moment or two to soak up the views out over Loch Harport. Behind the lake’s water, the dramatic peaks of the Black Cuillin range are visible.

Tour times and available types vary depending on the season so check ahead before you go. During the busy summer months, expect to wait. If you are on a tight schedule, be sure to book ahead to secure your place. Feel free to bring the children along for the tour at a discounted price.

Talisker Distillery is located in Carbost on the west of the island. Consider combining a trip here with a visit to the nearby Talisker Bay. Start in the village of Carbost and follow the steep hill past the distillery continuing straight ahead for around 4 miles (6 kilometers). At the road end, continue following the signs pointing toward Talisker Bay.

Lots of great things to note: the front desk staff person Kiri was highly efficient, knowledgeable, and friendly; the grand staircase was lovely; the onsite restaurant was excellent; continental breakfast was good, they had a lift; our room was bright and spacious; just aboit everything youd want to see/do is walkable from this location. Drawback: only onsite parking for 9 cars, but a reasonably priced carpark was only 2 blocks away.

Everything was better than expected and went smooth as silk. The room layout was quirky in the best of ways! Not a simple rectangle box - more like a suite - bedroom, bathroom, a teeny entry foyer, a couple of steps separating all three. In the heart of Inverness Center (Centre, if you prefer). Everything a tourist could want is within a short walk. The booking said unstaffed/no front desk; however, their was a Hootananny rep, familiar with our reservation and gave us an easy welcome - who was primarily working the bar/restaurant. I give it a fair thumbs up!
