"Everything was new and the accommodation was fantastic. Everywhere was very clean, and the pub was friendly and spotlessly maintained. It’s an ideal place to stay when working in the area. I will definitely stay again next time I’m in the area."

"A gem of a place to stay. We stayed in the suite for a week and it was very comfortable complete with a Smart TV. All the staff were very friendly and would do all they could to make your stay comfortable. The food in the restaurant was really good and had a great atmosphere.Special shout out to Ann and Claire for all their help."

"Was an excellent experience staying at the Greyhound hotel, friendly staff at reception and perfect location. Felt very safe there too. The telly didn't work but the staff promptly swapped it for one that does so no worries on that one. Will definitely stay there again. "

"I was really disappointed with my recent stay here and wouldn’t return. The hotel advertises having a restaurant, but there wasn’t one available. The lighting in the hallways near reception was extremely poor, which didn’t feel welcoming or safe.
There were leaks coming through the ceilings with no buckets underneath, meaning you had to walk through puddles just to reach your room. The whole building had a noticeable damp smell throughout.

"Fabulous hotel with friendly and efficient staff. In the middle St Helens so well placed with ample parking (lots of signs telling you to book your car in!). Used the leisure facilities and they were great again with friendly and efficient staff and very clean. Restaurant staff great and the food was excellent. Can’t praise the hotel highly enough so won’t deduct any stars for the only bugbear from the stay. We booked half board but no details on Hotels.com and no details on reception apart from it was dinner and breakfast. The cost was £80 so seemed reasonable but the additional cost for breakfast on the booking page was £11 ( full cost £25). So even at full cost the “Dinner allowance should have been £55 but we were told in the restaurant to order as normal they would deduct £40 from the bill. Clearly not an economic option so will not book this type of stay in the future. Hotel might say they are deducting vat from the fee but that does not make sense either as vat is included in the prices paid. Drinks were extra which we expected and the cost in comparison to other places was reasonable. Will use Mercure again but not on a half board basis."
"We were really impressed by both the rooms and the pub itself. Beautifully renovated to create a comfortable and memorable stay. Emilia, Paul, and the team couldn’t have been more welcoming. Live music (earplugs provided). Across the road from the station (live train times in pub). Even thoughtful enough to have a cooking room with oven, hob and fridge etc for guests. Would definitely stay again. "
