The indoor living space is nicely decorated with modern chic accent. The two bedrooms at Villa Mate are elegantly furnished, both having full en-suite bathrooms. The rooms are bright and airy and each has its own terrace. Televisions are also provided in the rooms. One of the bedrooms features natural stone walls as it is situated in an old winemaking tavern. This comfortable space is wonderful for simply relaxing or reading a book selected from a small living room library. You can enjoy a glass of wine from the wine cellar overlooking the magnificent scenery of the Mediterranean. The interior offers all modern comforts, satellite smart TV, air condition and Wi-Fi access. The combination of the villa’s summer kitchen and the barbeque grill provides endless options for brilliant dining memories around the large wooden table. The terrace below the kitchen leads to the swimming pool area which offers stunning views of the sea and the islands. This property provides a grand display of the sunset every evening. The large courtyard of the house includes a garden with planted vegetables that you can enjoy complementary during your stay at the villa. The yard is nicely adorned with an olive tree and domestic grapes. You could easily spend your holiday on the villa’s tranquil grounds enjoying the fresh country air. The quiet village provides all the essentials for leisure and rest. But if you would like to explore Dalmatia, this property is the perfect venue. Located in the heart of Dalmatia, Villa Mate is within easy driving distance of the magnificent cultural and historical areas of Split and Dubrovnik, and only a short boat rides away from the magical islands of Hvar and Brac. Our family of four travelled down from Split after hiring a car with Oryx car rental, it took about an hour and a half to reach Zaostrog. Mario, the owner's property manager, kept in touch with us in the run up to the holiday and met us when we arrived. Mario was excellent as he quickly answered any questions we had via Whatsapp and was accessible whilst we were there living only 5 minutes away from villa Mate. The location is stunning being half way up the Viter mountain, so you have the elevation to take in the grandest of views -the photos don't quite do it justice. The villa was clean, very smart and modern. Three showers and toilets, a heated infinity pool to die for, three 4k TVs, inside and outside cooking facilities, this place has it all. The upstairs bedroom was the largest and arguably the most 'adult' but we let our two kids have that room as it had a king size bed and also a single chair bed (which was never used!). We opted for the lower, but equally gorgeous, bedroom whose doors opened out onto a fantastic view and direct access to the pool, ideal for that early morning swim before the kids woke up! The drive up from the main road (2km/5 minutes) is a bit twisty and we elected to keep our car in the single parking spot above the property on the road as the actual driveway/parking was quite tricky to negotiate being narrow and steep, I wasn't that confident in a brand new hire car! As it was October half term there was very little open in the immediate locality, we had to travel half an hour to Makarska to get to a decent selection of restaurants and touristy type activities, but luckily the Delfin beach bar in lower Zaostrog was open which served decent food on the beach. The beach/waterfront itself is only a couple of kilometres down the road as is the local Plodine supermarket which was exceedingly handy! The property was so nice however, that half the week was spent just lazing around and drinking in the views. At an unprecedented mid 20 degrees for end of October, I think we were very lucky! Matko, the owner, owns a few villas in the area I believe. If they are anywhere near as good as this then I would have no hesitation in booking. I would rate this particular villas as the best I've been in on our self-catering travels, it was fantastic. Wenn es geht, kommen wir wieder. Das Haus liegt oberhalb Zaostrogs mit perfektem Ausblick. Alle Details stimmen. Einkaufen kann man ca 10 Min Fahrt entfernt, Auto ist ein Muss. Mario - der Mann für Ort - ist jederzeit erreichbar für Tipps und Hilfe falls nötig. Küche innen UND außen (mit klassischen Grill), Vollausstattung vom Smoothiemixer bis zum Toaster oder Stabmixer. Es gibt zur Begrüßung Biogemüse vom Nachbarn, im Willkommenskorb, der Weißwein steht kalt, man kann bei den Nachbarn jederzeit frisches Gemüse aus dem Garten kaufen (nach einer kurzen Verabredung per WhatsApp) - und zum Abschied gab es auch noch regionale Köstlichkeiten als Präsent! We are a family from the northern part of Germany with two daughters (11 and 15 years old). We love the sun, the ocean and having a nice and beautiful place were we live and hang around. Villa Mate fulfilled everything we expect from a perfect holiday. The house and the area are pefect, the pool is top. The girls loved jumping in the water, also did the adults 😎 The ocean-view directly from the pool is awesome - unbelievable. We were spending a lot of time on the ground, just chilling, cooking and relaxing in the pool. We also made trips to Zaostrog and Drvenik to go to the ocean and visit the bars and restaurants. There are nice places to go for dinner in the evening. Our host Mario and the owner Matko were keeping care a lot and had some really good advices where to go and what to do. Mario was helping us always when we had a question or needed some help. Wir konnten uns nicht satt sehen. Im Haus fehlte es an Nichts. Selbst eine gute Weinauswahl stand zur Verfügung. Absolute Ruhe. Zwei Wochen Erholung pur. Wir haben uns bis jetzt nirgends besser und schöner erholt. Unbedingt zu erwähnen ist Betreuung durch Mario. Immer hilfsbereit und freundlich und vor allem immer zur Stelle wenn man Hilfe brauchte. Der Besitzer der Villa Matko sowie der Gastgeber Mario vor Ort waren stets aufgeschlossen, freundlich und um das wohl der Gäste bemüht. Es ist nicht selbstverständlich einen Service wie hier zu bekommen, wenn es bspw. um Hilfe beim Grillen, Tipps für die Umgebung, Extra-Reinigung und und und geht... In der Nachbarschaft gibt es lokale Spezialitäten und Gemüse sowie Brot zu erwerben, welche man bei einem gemütlichen Beisammensein näher kennenlernen kann. Der Ausblick und die Ausstattung der Villa sucht seines gleichen, es hat an nichts gefehlt. Der Pool ist himmlisch und wird zudem auch beheizt. Wir können uns keinen besseren Urlaub in Kroatien vorstellen! So much so that I dont want anyone else to know about it and we can keep it a secret! We lived outside with the fantastic garden kitchen. The views, the pool, the loungers, the neighbourhood, everything is designed for relaxing and immersing yourself in a small Croatian community. Mario, our host, is fantastic and can’t help enough, the house has everything you could need, and the neighbours veg box and schnapps meant we only had to pop out w couple of times for bread and milk. The pay as you drink wine cellar is brilliant and made it tougher to leave the villa. This is our family’s 4th year renting homes in Europe and this house was arguably our favorite. We are a family of 4, with two teens, and it was a perfect amount of space. All amenities were of high standard with our favourite being the outdoor kitchen and dining room where we spent our evenings after busy days visiting the coast. The house is in a perfect location for day trips in Dubrovnik, Hvar, Brac, etc. It was however hard to leave the house so make sure you keep at least a few days to relax, explore the trails by hiking and biking or just lounge by the pool. The house is finished to an exceptionally high standard, but we spent most of our time enjoying the large outdoor area: swimming and relaxing during the day and cooking in the outdoor kitchen in the evenings. The welcome was very warm, check in easy and we had everything we needed for our stay. We loved the location with the beautiful mountains surrounding us and the views of the ocean below. The house is well-appointed with modern amenities, and we lacked for nothing. Matko was very responsive and accommodating to our needs. We could not have been more appreciative of his thoughtfulness and the service he provided us. While the weather did not cooperate when we were there, we wouldn't have wanted to be anywhere else. We thoroughly enjoyed hanging out in this very comfortable house, cooking dinner and drinking wine with our friends. A perfect shelter from the storm. Having stayed in Matko's other amazing villa further up the hill for 2 weeks in September 2017, we had absolutely no hesitation in booking this villa in September 2018 for another 2 weeks and we certainly weren't disappointed. The location is unbeatable if you like peace and privacy and stunning views of surrounding hills, and the sea ahead framed by islands.The villa is just as beautiful, modern and well equipped as the other one - there is nothing you could possibly need that hasn't been provided. We enjoyed lazing by the pool or going out around the coast in the daytime and lovely relaxing evenings at various bars and restaurants, both in Zaostrog and other beautiful villages up and down the coast, watching the sun come down, as well as eating and drinking in the lovely seating area outside the villa. Matko is a very attentive and helpful host, but never intrusive. We absolutely loved our holiday and will definitely be back in the future. We were certainly not disappointed as soon as we arrived at this fabulous Villa perched on the side of a hill overlooking Zaostrog and the beautiful coastline of Croatia. Villa Mate is one of a small number of villas in the old village totally private and with everything that you could wish for. The swimming pool is perfect for everyone with sun loungers to relax on. The addition of an outside kitchen was perfect for us to cook and eat our meals. Matko was the perfect host and we couldn't have asked for anyone better and more thoughtful. Zaostrog is perfectly situated if you are looking to explore as it is between Dubrovnik and Split, island hopping to Hvar and Korcula is easily accessible from here and Makarska is close by. All in all we had a lovely holiday and even our teenage daughters were very happy spending a week here. Our family really enjoyed 8 days in these beautiful surroundings - and with our needs attended to considerately by Matko. We spent a lot of time lazing by the temperature controlled pool - and enjoyed self catering in the outdoor kitchen. I enjoyed morning runs along the mountains to the neighbouring villages of Drvenik and Podaca, returning along the coast. The hiking trail to the top of the mountain is also recommendable. The nearby Gradina fort and observation point is worth a visit as a historic site with a stunning view. It feels good bringing life back to the previously abandoned villages in the coastal mountains.
