"The place has a great view of the ocean, but the rooms are disappointing for the price you pay as there are none of the regular items you'd expect, such as a microwave or ice trays. There is a notice in the room that all kitchen items have been removed due to fire hazards, but all the other places we went to simply upgraded to improve their safety and still provide guest with the needed items.
Though a decent sized TV was int he room, the hotel selected a poor satellite provider that's...

"I was looking forward to wonderful weekend away but the hotel just does not live up to its pictures, maybe it did 10 years ago. The hotel needs a serious refurb as well as the grounds of the hotel. The pool is definitely not this clean and blue as in the pictures anymore - it needs a paint job and a proper clean. The bed I slept in made such a noise when you moved, it was terrible. The carpets were so marked, it was gross. The whole experience staying at the hotel freaked me out and I wont be...
"Fantastic place to relax and wind down. The owner was fantastic, the food and service were excellent. I would definitely recommend the Shangri-la to anyone staying in Wilderness."
"On our way from Cape Town to the wonderful Pure Nature Lodge in Paterson we stopped twice at The Old Trading Post for one night stop-over. We really enjoyed it and on the way back to Cape Town it felt already like coming home :-) And the pizza dinner was really outstanding - really the best pizza we ever had!!!"

"I do not make a habit of writing reviews. For me to do so means that something has either fallen well short of an expected standard or has far exceeded them. This review falls into the latter.
I Spent two nights at this property in September 2025 (suite 6).
If you want to know what a 5-star boutique offering should look like then this is the exemplar.
The interior design and overall finish on the property is superb. Some absolutely exquisite art works and pieces of furniture are complemented by some relevant and inspirational sporting memorabilia. Just stand at the back of the guest lounge area, look out over a stunning seascape and drink in the sheer elegance and finesse of this place.
There are so many additional features including the excellent quality of complementary snacks, drinks and toiletries and the provision of beach chairs and towels. However, it’s more than simply just the provision of beach towels, more it’s the way in which they are presented. Not just laid out on a chair or table but carefully rolled and placed into a wicker carrier that is easily transportable onto the beach. It’s just those simple, classy examples of attention to detail that lifts Beach Villa to another level. Absolutely superb. Thank you.

"This is one of our favorite half-way stops on our way down to Cape Town. Wildernis is a quant little town with world-class restaurants and The Wildernis Hotel is such a great place to stay. Lovely pool, padel, tennis and mini-golf facilities. Excellent breakfasts! And very, very friendly staff."
"Beautifull farm with fantastic views, mountains and sea, sunsets and sunrises.
Interesting guests and nice vibe.
Lovely outdoor deck where guests can relax and enjoy the views.
Room comfortable and nice hot shower, clean.
Blinds cannot be openen properly, broken ties.
Communal kitchen and lounge area available for guests. Unfortunately, untidy, not clean, utensils, crockery and appliances tacky, some broken and not clean.
Poor housekeeping and maintenance of all areas.
Outdoor areas not well maintained.
Grass too long, slippery areas where a proper path or steps could help, rubbish bin overflowing.
Staff have a don't care attitude.
