About this property

Entire place

You'll have the entire home to yourself and will only share it with other guests in your party.

Enjoy a secluded shoreline home mid-way between the 2 parts of Acadia Natl Park!

Come visit and enjoy the open layout and expansive design of our rental home! This home provides you with a unique experience of nature and the cycles of tides and wildlife in a secluded garden setting, yet you are conveniently close to attractions in the area as well as a wide variety of stores and restaurants. The floor to ceiling windows facing the bay bay allow viewing of the yard, ocean bay and the wildlife from almost every room. This allow for you to enjoy the ever changing vistas the bay because of the changing tides. You might catch the eagles, ospreys and seals feeding as the incoming tides brings in their food. At low tide when the bay empties out, the herons, and gulls feed in the exposed mudflats. The house is secluded from the road with a nearly quarter mile-long driveway, and you will have difficulty seeing any other shoreline houses from your rental home. Watch the sunrise and sunsets while relaxing on the back deck or you can get closer to the wildlife by strolling down to the nearby shoreline using the well-maintained paths and steps down to the water’s edge. There is a professional quality, full-sized billiard table located in our formal expansive recreation room that can be used with for a fee during your stay. A ping pong top can be placed on this table for you by our staff if you choose to play ping pong instead of pool. You can choose one or the other, not both. Please contact us about the fees at the time of your booking of this rental if you are interested in either of these options.

All rooms of the house have central air conditioning/heating units, and most rooms have ceiling fans. There is a bedroom with a queen bed on the first floor. On the second floor there is one bedroom with a queen bed and a second bedroom with two twin beds. The 3 bedrooms offered do not have “en-suite” attached bathrooms. The full bathrooms on each floor are located down the hallway from the bedrooms. There is a second floor TV room and an open loft area for stretching and exercising. The kitchen is well supplied with cooking utensils and equipment. The formal dining room is spacious and inviting. There is a breakfast nook table in the kitchen area.

Please be aware that this spacious rental home has rooms and furnishings that are not included in your rental. These areas serve our maintenance staff’s needs, as well as storage areas for rental equipment and supplies. These rooms are well marked and locked. They include the rooms off the rec/pool room, the basement, the garage, the utility rooms attached to the garage, and the garden shed. We do not allow renters to use of our electric piano, the gas fireplace inserts, and the jaccuzi tub in the 2nd floor bathroom. Base rental rates include up to four guests. There is an added daily charge for each additional guest after the initial 4. There are driveway cameras for security and safety purposes only.

Off the back deck, there is a roomy screened-in gazebo with a large dining table and seating for 5 guests with views of the bay. It has overhead lighting and an electric power outlet. There is a propane gas grill in the gazebo you can use. On the large back deck and patio area are fully reclining lounge chairs as well as swivel deck chairs and patio tables. Explore the pristine tidal inlets and the larger bay by kayaks if you can bring them with you, or you can rent them. You can only kayak when the tide is coming in and during high tide, as the bay's mud flats are exposed during low tide. Thus there is a limited window in which to kayak each day, weather permitting, and so you should check the tides and weather out before comitting for a kayak rental. There is a kayak rental company about a mile down from our driveway with free delivery. Please inform us if you are thinking about kayaking off our shoreline, as we have important info about the tides and water and shoreline safety. The rental home is located on the shoreline of Taunton Bay which is a ocean tidal bay, and thus the ocean water comes and goes twice daily with the tides. It goes without saying that the rocks and shoreline areas are wet and slippery at all times, and especially when the tides goes out.

Mount Desert Island is where the town of Bar Harbor and Acadia National park are located. The island is driven onto using a causeway which is about a 14 mile drive from your rental. Acadia National Park's Hull's Cove Visitor center is 22 miles from your rental, about a 35 min drive depending on traffic. The scenic Park Loop Road for cars and the famous carriage trails for bicycles and walking begin there. The area-wide free shuttle bus system called Island Hopper, which stops at the Visitor Center. The town of Bar Harbor with all of its restaurants, whale watching tours and craft stores is only a couple of miles further from Hulls Cove. Bangor Intl Airport is 39 miles from your rental; about a 50 min drive away, depending on traffic, which can be heavy and slow during the busy summer/fall seasons.
Acadia National Park also includes a recently enlarged sister park on Schoodic Peninsula, 23 miles away from your rental house and in the opposite direction from Acadia National Park’s Mt. Desert Island location. The Schoodic section of Acadia National Park is a less crowded than on Mt. Desert Island features 7.5 miles of hiking trails and 8.3 miles of biking/carriage roads. There is a 6 mile one-way paved loop road that goes around the entire park along the ocean shoreline with spectacular ocean views, just like the loop road on Mount Desert Island. Your rental at our place is thus conveniently located half way in between these two National Park destinations!

The house is well situated away from the traffic and pedestrian congestion and noisy distractions and 6 am Lobster boat engine noise that can come with renting on Mount Desert Island. BUT IF your family and guests wants to be nearer to the center of Bar Harbor's bustling activity, its ice cream and numerous restaurant offerings, craft stores and touring outfits, then perhaps our rental home is not ideal for your needs. The rental is about 24 miles (35 min drive) from the town of Bar Harbor, so this needs to be factored into your plans. Our rental is conveniently close to the Ellsworth/Hancock town areas (5-7 miles) and these towns offer you a great variety of restaurants, such as Mexican, Asian, Italian, and many other restaurants and fast-food places. There are nearby larger grocery stores, a super Walmart, pharmacies, and other merchandise stores in Ellsworth only a few miles drive from your rental. There are local lobster pounds and fresh farm produce farm stands are within 3-5 miles and many more lobster restaurants are located on the drive onto Mount Desert Island.

In addition to Schoodic part of Acadia National Park, there are nearby terrific day hikes just a few miles from our rental home, such as Tunk Mountain and Schoodic Mountain that offer nearly 360-degree views of the ocean and inland, as well as other state parks further north to the Canadian Border. The Roosevelt's historical family retreat, Campobello, is located just over the Canadian border from the town of Lubec, ME. As the entry way into the Bay of Fundy, the town of Lubec is an artistic and historical place to visit and is 78 miles away or about an hour and a half drive, an easy one-day excursion from the rental. So you see, there are a lot of things to see and do near your rental, as well as within a 2 hr drive range!

Tranquil beauty.

Ideal location for sharing time with family. Gorgeous gardens meld into scenic woods. And the view of the lake overlooking twin islands was breathtaking! The house was large and well maintained with everything we needed for our stay. The owners provided very clear communication and instructions for our stay. Highly recommend this property!

Wonderful Stay

We had a wonderful stay! We enjoyed many evenings outside on the beautiful patio looking at the gorgeous views of the bay! The kitchen is very well stocked, and we cooked all of our breakfasts and dinners at the house. Very conveniently located between the 2 sections of Acadia National Park. We would highly recommend and would definitely stay again if in the area!

First trip to Maine

My brothers and I along with our wives I wanted to visit Acadia national Park for many years. This trip was our first time to Maine. The accommodations were excellent. The site is beautiful located on the water with a fantastic view. The house was spacious and well appointed with everything needed for our stay. We would highly recommend this property to anyone thinking of visiting the Acadia national Park area.

Beautiful and relaxing

We had four adults that stayed here and it was just perfect. Great proximity to Acadia, beautiful views for morning coffee and relaxing in the evening and all the little extras were provided from toiletries to dishes, spices, outdoor furniture. Super quiet and private setting. Property owners had great suggestions for restaurants. I highly recommend this property!

Beautiful Vacation Home

This home is a vacation in and of itself! We came to the area to explore Bar Harbor, Acadia NP and surrounding areas- and wound up not wanted to leave the house! The house was spotlessly clean, well appointed, spacious, and had all the comforts of home. The property is such a peaceful oasis and the view is breathtaking. We would definitely stay again!

Amazing stay

We rented many properties, but this one exceeded all our expectations! The house is very clean and huge, it was stuffed with everything we needed even more including sanitizers, make up removal, coffee, mosquito repellent and much more. Henry and Suzanne are great hosts and they did everything to make our stay comfortable and enjoyable. The views from the deck and windows are spectacular. We enjoyed kayaking in Egypt Bay where we spotted many birds and seals. We already miss this place and want to come back!

Magnificent Oasis

Henry and Suzanne's house is in a remote, peaceful location with a spectacular view of the water from their spacious deck. We saw Eagles, Ospreys and other birds ever day. The landscaping with trees, flowers and several places to sit and enjoy was a bonus! The 5 of us had plenty of space and enjoyed most of our time on the deck. Kitchen was well stocked with whatever we needed. Loved the way the house was decorated. Ellsworth is 5 minutes with grocery stores and a cute downtown with several good restaurant options. It's a bit of a drive to Bar Harbor (35 minutes) so plan you day and evening trips accordingly!

Spacious Home and Charming Property

This house and the surrounding property are just gorgeous. The grounds are beautifully landscaped, with small treasures around every bend. Small garden decorations surprised us as we walked around the yard, and various lawn chairs offered a place to sit and read or just gaze at the bay. The large windows throughout most of the house allow for a great view almost everywhere you look. The location is very private with a long driveway and no other house in view. We loved everything about the house and its proximity to Acadia. We also enjoyed looking through the the books in the several bookshelves with books about the region as well as a great collection of classics! Great place to return to after a day of hiking or other activities.

Quiet retreat with a beautiful view!

We loved our stay! The house was very clean and the best-equipped VRBO we've stayed in. It was about a 30 minute drive to Bar Harbor/Acadia, but it was really nice to stay away from the crowds. The view is beautiful!! We said it was like having a piece of Acadia in our backyard :) We ate on the deck several times and sat in the screened-in porch at night. Our daughters (9 and 5) had a lot of fun walking along the waterline at low tide and checking out the snails (and even a crab). This is clear from the pictures, but I'd mention that a couple of the bedrooms have high windows without shades (so it gets bright pretty early during the summer). We had a great stay and would love to return!

Great place

House was extremely clean. Backyard is very secluded and has amazing landscaping. The location is bit of a drive (45 mins) to get to all the Acadia sights. The bay behind the house was almost always mud due to the tides emptying the bay. High tide was around noon and midnight when we were asleep or out sightseeing while we were there. Nice labeling of drawers and light switches throughout the house. Well equipped modern kitchen. Tap water (from on property well) was as pleasant tasting as bottled water. The WiFi was reliable and fast enough for watching a streaming show. It’s a bit annoying that the primary suite is not setup with private bathroom but the listing is accurate. Overall it was a great place and we were thankful we stayed there.

July 2022 Maine vacation

This a gorgeous house with amazing views. We saw deer, chipmunks and a porcupine on the property. We went to Ellsworth and ate at Helen’s, union river lobster pound and Martha’s diner, all were excellent! Went to timber Tina’s lumber show, it was great. Drove to moose head lake for white water rafting (kennebec river), drove to Eastport for whale watching and took a seal and nature tour from bar harbor. Took a private tour of Acadia National Park, highly recommend this and all the tours! Also, went to schoodic peninsula…beautiful, then drove to bass harbor. All the sites were beautiful and a must see. The only recommendation we have for the rental would be upgraded mattresses and pillows, other than that the owners have everything you can think of to make your stay wonderful!

beauty and tranquility

We had only 5 nights here and wish it could have been a full week or more. Such a great house, such a lovely property, a whole private point to yourself. The sea view and landscaping are wonderful. Saw eagles and deer among other wildlife. The house has more than all the amenities described; for instance, an array of spices and condiments are included in pantry items. Cell phone service and internet wifi were great – very important to those of us who were still working. Grocery shopping at two supermarkets and restaurants (loved Margaritas) in Ellsworth only 15 minutes away, 30-35 to Bar Harbor and Acadia. We enjoyed the Puffins, Lighthouses, & Seabirds Cruise by Acadian Nature Cruise out of Bar Harbor – saw seals as well as puffins and other birds. Some of us hiked in both parts of Acadia -- in the largest portion on Mt. Desert Island and in the smaller piece on the Schoodic Peninsula. Henry was quick to respond to any questions we messaged. The consensus is we would love to come back next summer.

Be sure to Read the Fine Print

We loved this house's isolated, beautiful spot but there were expectations I had that would have been alleviated had I read everything more clearly. First I believed that the water was always up to the shore, but with the tide, you are without the beauty of the water for half of the day. I also assumed we would be able to use the ping pong table since that wasn't really included in the extra charge for the pool table but we were not. Make sure to pay for the use of the pool/ping pong table before you get there because you cannot decide you want it once you are there. Also the piano is off limits as well. It's electric so they remove the power cord. Also, in looking at the pictures, I presumed that the extra guest would be able to have privacy in the small TV room, but that room has the only bathroom for the upstairs so that makes privacy difficult. Extra guests are set up in a folding couch bed in the pool room. Just some things I would have liked to know. Probably would stay closer to Acadia if I were to do it again, but the house was nice, well equipped and had a beautiful setting.
