Imposing limestone cliffs create a stunning scene that serves as ample reward for a steep and rocky climb from the mountain base.

La Tournette is a mountain dotted with hiking trails and platforms providing vistas of picturesque Lake Annecy. Hidden amid its thick, green forests on the way up to the natural landmark is the Chalet de Rosairy. On a visit to La Tournette connect with nature as you embark on a hike up the steep and rocky paths from the foot of the mountain.

A sloping green meadow grazes the steep sides of the mountain, with its trees and rocks balancing at various angles. Stroll along the trails and spot flocks of sheep as well as occasional herding dogs that help to protect the sheep. Since the tracks split and regroup at the summit, you can enjoy fresh views on each returning trip to the mountaintop.

Arrive in autumn to see the changing colors of the leaves. As you approach the top, notice how you appear to be level with some of the clouds. The summit reaches a height of 7,713 feet (2,351 meters) above sea level. Gaze up from the base to the mountain peak in winter, when much of it is covered in thick layers of snow.

Enter the rustic Chalet de Rosairy and enjoy spectacular views of the mountainside from within. Decorating the slopes around the refuge are various pointed rocks made of limestone. You’ll also find many grassy patches that are ideal picnic spots.

La Tournette overlooks the southeastern corner of Lake Annecy, in the province of Haute-Savoie. Drive southeast for 15 miles (24 kilometers) from Annecy and travel around the perimeter of the lake to reach the mountain in roughly 45 minutes. You can drop off your car in the parking lot on the road to Belchamp. While you’re in the area, visit other nearby treasures such as the Pointe de la Beccaz, the Grotte et Cascade de Seythenex and the Golf de Giez.
