A regular winner of awards celebrating clean beaches, Maggies Beach is a peaceful haven to visit for strolling along soft, white sand and swimming in pristine surf. Framed by lush, green hills, the beach extends for about 1.5 miles (2.5 kilometers) between Hastings Point and Cabarita Beach. Spread out as much as you like to swim in the sea and bask in the sun.
After relaxing, there’s plenty to do in the immediate Tweed Coast area. Walk north to Norries Headland for spectacular views over the coastline and a cove that’s a good whale-watching spot. Lions Park has restroom and picnic facilities to take a break. Continue on to Cabarita Beach, one of the region’s most popular vacation destinations.
Wander along the main street of the town of Cabarita Beach to buy original souvenirs from a range of fashion boutiques, surf shops and gift stores. Choose between charming restaurants and coffee shops with outdoor seating for people-watching. Just a quick stroll from the main street, the lifeguard-patrolled beach is a top spot for surfers and families.
South of Maggies Beach you’ll come to Hastings Point. A much-loved town with both locals and visitors, it’s the place to get fish and chips and settle in to enjoy the tranquil atmosphere of the beach. A tidal lagoon ensures safe splashing for the whole family, and it’s ideal for kayaking and poking around rock pools.
For a change of scenery, visit nearby Cudgen Lake, a serene wetland with diverse wildlife. Note the backdrop of heritage-listed Wollumbin National Park and Mount Warning. Pack a picnic to enjoy in the dedicated area. Launch a kayak from the convenient ramp or join the locals windsurfing in the right conditions. Take binoculars to spot birdlife, including the white-faced heron.
The closest airport to Maggies Beach is Gold Coast International Airport, a 20-minute drive away. Park at dedicated, free parking lots stretching from Cabarita Beach to Hastings Point.
