Took a bit of a hiatus recently to go to #japan and it was everything I dreamed and more. Thought this shot was an appropriate #takeahike entry as it was not something I expected to see in the middle of Japanese summer! Leaving in the morning from Toyama in 27+ degree (Celsius) heat to do the Tateyama Kurobe Summer Alpine Route, I thought the rest of the day would be spent in a T-shirt. What a beautiful surprise! Snow and volcanic scenery. And we even drove past some snow monkeys 💙. Falling hard and fast for Japan and its trekking routes, and finally making my Trover wishlist dreams a reality! (Tip: many more trekking routes are open in summer that wouldn't usually be accessible).

"I really enjoyed my time at Dark Horse. The owner and staff are warm and welcoming, and helped out in many ways, both big and small. Breakfasts and dinners were good and the lounge/dining room was a comfortable place to relax after riding. It was great value for the money. "We stayed 6 nights at hakuba house with Grant and his team. The room was comfortable especially the bed. Bathroom was tiny but that's common in japan. The breakfasts were great and the dinners excellent when we couldn't be bothered to go out. The hotel offers dinner drop off's which is great and there are plenty of places to eat within a 15-20min walk home. Location is good and if your a good skier cab ski in/out. If not it's only a short walk to the slope. "
