"What a magical spot nestled in Playa Avellanas! We loved our time at Cabinas Las Olas - the rooms are great - clean and super comfortable. The grounds of the hotel are absolutely gorgeous and we loved the rustic boardwalk which led to the most stunning beach. The food was absolutely delicious and everything felt super safe and clean. Ryan was incredible - so kind and generous and there to answer all our questions! There are fun games (darts, ping pong, etc) to play by the restaurant and we rented a surfboard and had the best day at the beach! Highly recommend and would stay here again :) "

"Our room was super clean. The grounds were lush and jungle like. True rainforest vibes. The staff were so helpful. They arranged our taxi from the airport and a massage by the pool. The breakfast at their restaurant was beyond explanation. It was so different yet phenomenal. Great spot. "

"Yes, very clean they organized and cleaned our room multiple times a day. They could’ve had more restaurants open. Some music down at the pool would’ve been nice. Apparently we went during their lowest season and it was only about 5 to 10% occupied so it was pretty quiet. There was a minor construction that disrupted our afternoon one day with some very loud pressure washers. It’d be nice if they had a club with music and dance floor . but they did upgrade us when we got there to a better room with an ocean view. I was very appreciated of that."

"This was easily one of the best stays we’ve ever had. Café Playa Negra is everything a boutique hotel should be—warm, welcoming, and thoughtfully run. We were greeted like family and offered lime slush drinks that were pure bliss. Our room was spotless and beautiful, the meals were delicious, and the pool was a perfect escape. Nixon was amazing—so kind and attentive, making sure everything went smoothly. This place has heart. And by staying here, you’re supporting the real people of Playa Negra—not just a vacation rental owned by investors. We felt good knowing our visit made a positive impact. We’ll definitely be back."

"Agree with most of the previous reviews but would like to add a couple things we did. We had a family of ten 6 adults, 4 teenage kids. Working with Mary Diekers, the rental property manager, we employed a ten person van and driver to pick us up at the airport. Turns out he was also an excellent daily tour guide, setting up and driving us to zip line, ATV, horse back riding, and river cruise activities. His name is Jeffery Guevara, very friendly, speaks fluent English, and was knowledgable on everything Costa Rican. We also selected to have evening chefs cook dinner for us on three occasions. This was especially helpful after returning from a busy day of activities. Highly recommend Chefs Garrett Hurley and his wife. Their food preparation was incredible, much better than any restaurant. We also rented an SUV at the airport as kind of a back up. As stated by others the property is realatively isolated with bummpy dirt roads in and out. "

"Great House, has everything, 10 min walk to Avellana Beach, The property is only 5 houses, so you are in your private secluded area, the house has 3 room with AC split system, well equipped, Dennis was always there for any question, there is a tree in the back of the house that always have several monkeys jumping or relaxing. Avellana town its a really quiet town, will be back thanks again for this wonderful place"

"This property was fantastic and we absolutely loved our stay here! It was only a 10 minute walk or so to the beach which was stunning. It was homey, clean, secure, filled with wildlife, and let me just say I think I may have taken the best naps of my life on those hammocks. Ben was a fantastic host and even provided private surfing lessons for our kiddos which they absolutely adored. Thank you so much for allowing us to stay in your beautiful home! "

"The resort is gorgeous. The rooms are clean , beds are very comfortable. Definitely Great to have the pool right outside the door. Odd set up for the 2 bdr villas.. when you enter through the gate you have a common outside small table and 4 chairs and on each side of that is a sliding door..to the right ...a kitchen with 2 single beds and TV, no bathroom. So whoever is in that room has to come through the queen bedroom with people sleeping to use bathroom . On the left queen bedroom and bathroom, no tv. So when those people go to bed no tv to watch. Also, the shower is outside which was cool, but the door to the bathroom is locked and if you wanted to leave it open ..there was just enough gap for lizards and bugs to come in . And no hooks to hang your towel and clothes. The units definitely need more hooks to hang towels up or a retractable clothes line. We had all our stuff drapped all over the chairs in the common outdoor space. Which was hard to sit at as they were all covered in wet stuff. Also needs more hanging hooks for clothes in other room with the kitchen ....and more cutlery options like a good cutting knife , bottle opener, wine opener ..etc. Basic utensils only, no dish soap to wash dishes"
