This is the monument in Quartzsite AZ in memory of Hi Jolly.

The Civil War began and the project was abandoned.
The camels were set free to wander the Arizona desert

"It took a little getting used to but the check-in process was all done electronically via a monitor. Perhaps this is a safety matter or a cost-cutting option? I can see how it would enable one person to service multiple hotels. In any case, once I got used to it, it was fine. The young woman who appeared on the screen couldn't have been more gracious or patient with me as I got used to this process. "
