When you've visited all of the amazing attractions in La Paz, there's loads more to explore in the surrounding area. Collect the keys to a rental car, toss your luggage in the trunk and get out there. We've come up with some drives we're confident you'll love:

• Ambato is approximately 75 miles from La Paz. Popular tourist attractions like Mall of the Andes deserve a place on your must-see list while you're in town.

If you don't hold a driver's license issued in Ecuador, then it's likely you'll need to acquire an International Driving Permit (IDP) in your home country to be allowed to rent a car.
