After a year of planning we chose this village and home for an extended 8 week stay in May/June of this year. Both were perfect for us and our guests. The location of the house is excellent. Several restaurants, a small grocery, ATM, butcher, and bread shop are within walking distance. The house was charming, nicely restored, and filled with historic character inside and out. The outdoor areas include a lovely courtyard with table/chairs canopied with a magnificent grape vine providing shade on the sunny afternoons. Above, there is a sunny upper terrace – with a pool and additional elevated seating terrace with table and chairs commanding beautiful views of the village, Luberon Valley, and the stunning ochre cliffs. Sunsets spent at this table sipping wine and eating dinners are our most cherished memories.
Inside, the living room is spacious and elegantly appointed with magnificent old, timber ceiling beams and a large fireplace. The kitchen is quaint and well-stocked, with its own access to yet another small outdoor area. The bedrooms upstairs were nice, especially the large master bedroom with its own bath. This bath has a huge picture window with dramatic views – gorgeous. The home is historic, I believe dating back to the 1500s, but in very good shape. It had everything we needed to be quite happy while feeling like we were somewhere very special. Several guests visited us, and they all marveled at the location, the view from the upper terrace, and the historic charm of the home. We were very comfortable here as were our guests.
Our selection of Roussillon as a base was ideal. Other villages in Provence are also beautiful but often extremely quiet and with no activity. Roussillon is a quaint, lovely village with an energetic local and tourist presence. We liked that combination. During the day, Roussillon was vibrant and fun- especially on Thursday market day. There were things to see and do, and you felt you were in “the place to be”. Late in the day, the town would take on a serenity and peacefulness would surround you. It was wonderful in the evenings to walk to dinners along the charming old lanes. Roussillon was ideal for visits to nearby villages like Gordes, Goult, Murs, Bonnieux, Menerbes, and St Sauternin les Apt.
The owners (Clifford and Alice) were very accommodating/responsive- kind and helpful throughout the planning process and during our 8 week stay. We would definitely choose Roussillon and this home again.
