Bordered by entertainment venues, art galleries and magnificent churches, these 19th-century gardens are a cultural highlight in the center of Brighton.

Victoria Gardens is a set of picturesque 19th-century grounds at the core of the city. Statues and plaques stand amid floral displays and trees in this leafy haven. Arrive in the park to be greeted by the iconic Seashell Plaque, with an inscription describing the 1897 inauguration of the park.

Admire the white Queen Victoria Statue that was crafted by artist Carlo Nicoli. It depicts a surprisingly pensive and emotive form of the queen, who appears to look down at her subjects in the park. In summer, bring a basket for a picnic with your family on a sunny patch of grass. Take shelter from the heat in the shade of the large trees.

Enter the Sallis Benney Theatre that marks the eastern border of the gardens. Inspect the works of art in its gallery and attend a dramatic performance in this modern space. Chat with some of the students relaxing in this park, next to which are parts of the University of Brighton.

Make your way to the southwestern corner of the park for the Brighton Dome. The site, which has an impressive Regency façade, is a preeminent arts venue. See stand-up comedy, dance and theater shows here and connect via the underground tunnel to the Royal Pavilion, the Concert Hall and the Corn Exchange. Next door, study the historic artifacts and intriguing works of the Brighton Museum and Art Gallery.

Enjoy lunch at one of the pubs and cafés overlooking the gardens. In the northern part of the park you’ll find One Church Brighton and the impressive St. Peter’s Church.

Victoria Gardens is just north of the Brighton Palace Pier in the center of the city. From the Brighton railway station walk southeast for about 10 minutes to get to the gardens. You can also travel by bus to a stop bordering the park. While here, visit neighboring gems such as the Green Door Store, the Komedia Brighton and the Brighton War Memorial.
