    Pocket Guide: Samoa

Samoa offers western travelers the ideal South Pacific tropical beach vacation at very reasonable prices. Each of the ten islands have special environments to explore. Rain forests filled with tropical flowers cover volcanic peaks on the two main islands, and coastlines consist of white-sand beaches. In the valleys, banyan trees rise over the rain forest and waterfalls crash into the rivers at the valley floors.

Samoa lies south of the equator in Polynesia approximately halfway between New Zealand and Hawaii. Savai'i and Upolu are the largest islands in Samoa, and both the capital city of Apia and the Faleolo International Airport are located on Upolu.

Samoa has two seasons: wet and dry. The rainy season runs from November through April. The average annual temperature in Samoa is nearly 80 degrees Fahrenheit. The best time to travel to Samoa is during the dry season, although it may be more difficult to find cheap hotel deals in Samoa during the peak tourism seasons.

Samoa hotels range from the super luxurious to rooms in a backpacker discount hostel. Travelers can book nights in a traditional Samoan beachfront fale. Fales are open-walled dwellings with palm-frond roofs. They come only with a bed and mosquito netting for the true Samoan experience.

Some of the interesting Samoa hotel deals include stays overlooking the south coast of Upolu, near the base of Mt. Vaea and close to the lagoon where the first Polynesian migrants landed on Samoan ground.

Some of the finest Samoa hotel packages cater to surfing and sun-worshiping fanatics. Other travelers enjoy sport fishing, diving, and snorkeling in the lagoons and coral reefs of Samoa. Hotels in Samoa enjoy some of the most pristine white-sand beaches in the world.

Travelers who enjoy a cheap Samoa hotel deal should sample some of the islands' affordable luxuries. Visit the wetland sanctuary at Satoalepai Village on Savai'i, and swim with the green turtles. Travelers can even find great rates at a Samoan spa where traditional healers can relieve every stress you have.

    "Great value with phenomenal staff"
Everyone at this hotel went above and beyond to ensure we had a wonderful stay - both when we were staying there and during the rest of our stay in Samoa. Room was clean and serviceable, with daily cleaning available. The clean towels were much used due to the handy pool. Breakfast was nice and abundant, with variation over days to keep it fresh. Staff were knowledgeable about local attractions and happy to help you with anything you need.

    "beautiful location"
We had the best holiday ever! Completely relaxing. The beach, the pool, the day spa, snorkelling at the reef, gentle work outs in the gym, cocktails aplenty. Good food. Exciting fia fia night.

    "Luxury combined with traditional architecture"
Accommodation: our beach Fale was lovely, a little rustic, but all the mod cons, rock waterfall shower was nice, and a lovely raised patio outside the room looking out to the reef. Overwater bungalows are really luxrious and more private. Food and drink: Mika's restaurant food is good, enough variety for a week, and there are two other resort restaurants within walking distance. Meal deal is worthwhile if you intend eating here every day, otherwise pas as you go. Also note I didn't rate the house wine very highly, and other wine not included in meal deal. They really tried to accommodate my wife's gluten/dairy free requirement, but that really limits what you can eat on the menu, and they didn't always get it right. Beer and wine free in mini-bar is a nice touch Location: Beautiful landscaped gardens, small but nice pool area was never crowded, two nice beaches either side of resort, access to lagoon via sandy slopes direct from resort area. You really need a car to explore further afield (or hire driver from resort by the hour/half day). South coast drive east is a good day trip with waterfalls, pretty coastline and beaches and don't miss To-Sua. We weren't that impressed with Apia (about 45 mins drive) or north coast (lots of rubbish). Staff: Genuinely friendly, and high standard or service, very eager to please. All from the local village. They put on a great cultural day including Umu, good Fia-fia night and pleasent music around bar and restaurant in evenings

    "Third time lucky..."
My husband and I have been to Samoa seven times; we always stay at two places each visit - somewhere we have already been and somewhere new. This is the third time we have stayed at SInalei, and we will keep going back. We love the no children policy and how consistent the facilities, staff and food are.
