    Pocket Guide: Samoa

Samoa offers western travelers the ideal South Pacific tropical beach vacation at very reasonable prices. Each of the ten islands have special environments to explore. Rain forests filled with tropical flowers cover volcanic peaks on the two main islands, and coastlines consist of white-sand beaches. In the valleys, banyan trees rise over the rain forest and waterfalls crash into the rivers at the valley floors.

Samoa lies south of the equator in Polynesia approximately halfway between New Zealand and Hawaii. Savai'i and Upolu are the largest islands in Samoa, and both the capital city of Apia and the Faleolo International Airport are located on Upolu.

Samoa has two seasons: wet and dry. The rainy season runs from November through April. The average annual temperature in Samoa is nearly 80 degrees Fahrenheit. The best time to travel to Samoa is during the dry season, although it may be more difficult to find cheap hotel deals in Samoa during the peak tourism seasons.

Samoa hotels range from the super luxurious to rooms in a backpacker discount hostel. Travelers can book nights in a traditional Samoan beachfront fale. Fales are open-walled dwellings with palm-frond roofs. They come only with a bed and mosquito netting for the true Samoan experience.

Some of the interesting Samoa hotel deals include stays overlooking the south coast of Upolu, near the base of Mt. Vaea and close to the lagoon where the first Polynesian migrants landed on Samoan ground.

Some of the finest Samoa hotel packages cater to surfing and sun-worshiping fanatics. Other travelers enjoy sport fishing, diving, and snorkeling in the lagoons and coral reefs of Samoa. Hotels in Samoa enjoy some of the most pristine white-sand beaches in the world.

Travelers who enjoy a cheap Samoa hotel deal should sample some of the islands' affordable luxuries. Visit the wetland sanctuary at Satoalepai Village on Savai'i, and swim with the green turtles. Travelers can even find great rates at a Samoan spa where traditional healers can relieve every stress you have.

Pleasant and enjoyable surroundings with nice spacious eating areas and relaxing atmosphere around the pool and lobby entrance. Loved my week stay on a working holiday. The room was very clean and comfortable, it was just so hot even the air conditioning unit was sweating !

    "Wonderful hotel to stay"
This was my second stay in so many months. The staff welcomed me back like a family member returning. I choose Insel because it is close to town, but yet far away enough to be away from the hustle and bustle of the township. This time I stayed for 8 nights and because I was partly working and partly holidaying, I needed things to be precise and relax at the same time in terms of when my room is serviced. The cleaning staff went out of their way to ensure I was not disturbed and serviced the room when I am out. They also made sure my washing was done folded and placed in my room. This, I really appreciated. Above all I enjoy their smiling faces and friendliness.

    "Best value for the money"
We stayed five nights at the Outrigger and loved it. This is not a super deluxe 5 star hotel but a real Samoan experience. The original house has big rooms and you feel like you have stepped back in time. The fales are the real thing and we liked them too. The special thing about the Outrigger is the owner Claus --and his wonderful staff. We visited a hotel for a day in the $400 a night range and the staff were not nearly as thoughful and attentive as the staff at the Outrigger. Claus has had this hotel for over 20 years and he loves to meet his guests. The kitchen and bathrooms are shared. The place is spotless and completely cleaned throughout the day. Renting a car is a plus and Claus can arrange that too. We enjoyed the included daily breakfasts of banana pancakes, coffee, toast, and fresh fruit. The pool was nice when the days were hot. If you want a great place to stay at a budget price then the Outrigger is for you. It's the real deal. Denis and Carolyn Vancouver Island.

    "The best ever holiday experience"
My wife and I have just finished a 15 day stay at Sinalei and could not rave more highly about the resort. Where to start?, the setting, grounds, buildings are all just stunning and maintained meticulously, the friendliness and efficiency of the staff was way above expectations and the food, especially the seafood was consistently better than we have ever experienced. A special note for the efforts of the management who on a number of occasions went way above the call of duty for us. We had an ocean view room which was spacious, clean, very comfortable and not 10 mts from the beach and again exceeded expectations. The resort is perfect if all you wish to do is relax by the pool and enjoy the spa experience however if you do wish to experience all Samoa has to offer, hiring a car to get around is a must, as the public transport is infrequent and impractical for the tourist. There is an abundance to do in Samoa but it is scattered throughout the two main islands.
