Samoa Hotel & Resort Travel Guide

Samoa offers western travelers the ideal South Pacific tropical beach vacation at very reasonable prices. Each of the ten islands have special environments to explore. Rain forests filled with tropical flowers cover volcanic peaks on the two main islands, and coastlines consist of white-sand beaches. In the valleys, banyan trees rise over the rain forest and waterfalls crash into the rivers at the valley floors.

Samoa lies south of the equator in Polynesia approximately halfway between New Zealand and Hawaii. Savai'i and Upolu are the largest islands in Samoa, and both the capital city of Apia and the Faleolo International Airport are located on Upolu.

Samoa has two seasons: wet and dry. The rainy season runs from November through April. The average annual temperature in Samoa is nearly 80 degrees Fahrenheit. The best time to travel to Samoa is during the dry season, although it may be more difficult to find cheap hotel deals in Samoa during the peak tourism seasons.

Samoa hotels range from the super luxurious to rooms in a backpacker discount hostel. Travelers can book nights in a traditional Samoan beachfront fale. Fales are open-walled dwellings with palm-frond roofs. They come only with a bed and mosquito netting for the true Samoan experience.

Some of the interesting Samoa hotel deals include stays overlooking the south coast of Upolu, near the base of Mt. Vaea and close to the lagoon where the first Polynesian migrants landed on Samoan ground.

Some of the finest Samoa hotel packages cater to surfing and sun-worshiping fanatics. Other travelers enjoy sport fishing, diving, and snorkeling in the lagoons and coral reefs of Samoa. Hotels in Samoa enjoy some of the most pristine white-sand beaches in the world.

Travelers who enjoy a cheap Samoa hotel deal should sample some of the islands' affordable luxuries. Visit the wetland sanctuary at Satoalepai Village on Savai'i, and swim with the green turtles. Travelers can even find great rates at a Samoan spa where traditional healers can relieve every stress you have.

"Their service is spot on! :)"
I've stayed at Tanoa numerous times before with a few friends and it's a beautiful hotel, but their service wasn't always up to par. We'd wait for a few hours for our requests to be delivered. However, this previous trip in June really impressed me at how much the service has changed (must be new management). My cousin and I ordered dessert at 11pm (smart to have dessert at any time) after watching some cooking channel on cable that sparked our "all of a sudden" craving for something delicate and delicious. Ha! I had expected our dessert to come a few hours later, but it came a few minutes later. Not once, but twice the next day since we stayed for 3 nights. We've had a few requests while we were there and surprisingly they were all met. Keep up the awesome service and thank you to Lita and Iloa for welcoming us (especially my cousin on her first time to Apia) and making our stay a memorable one. I Guarantee another check-in to Tanoa the next time I visit.

    "Nice hotel on waterfront"
Nice hotel located right on the beach. Loved the hand carved poles and other traditional wood carvings. Quiet location that is isolated, so you need a car or have to pay for transport. Very close to the airport but very few planes, so you won't really notice unless you are outside. Staff were lovely. No on-site shop or snack machine and there are no snacks (eg, packet chips/nuts) available for purchase, you have to get a taxi to the local market. They have 3 separate dining areas but they all use the same hot snack menu (which never changes) and most of the food is spicy.

"The best resort in Samoa - with a few caveats"
First of all, the photos do not do the place justice. We were blown away by how beautiful the buildings were, the craftsmanship of the rooms, and the amazing setting of the resort. Visually, it's absolutely stunning. The pool is great, I heard good things about the in-house spa facilities, and the beaches are great for swimming (not much to see from a snorkeling perspective though). A few of the staff members were incredibly helpful and conversational, a few weren't - I'm not blaming them, I think it's maybe a cultural shyness or lack of English ability. Regardless, I'm not going to go to someone else's country and expect them to be fluent in my language. The staff did their best at all times to make sure we were comfortable. The main downside was the food - it wasn't bad by any stretch, it was just okay, and it wasn't cheap so it was a let down. Doing activities from the resort was also a bit of a hassle. The resort don't run snorkeling or surfing trips themselves, and go through an external provider who you had to call from the reception phone. Organisation was annoying and sometimes fruitless (we enquired about horse riding three months before arriving, were told it'd be fine, and then were told on our last day no horses could be found in the local area for us to ride). If you go, make sure you get to To Sua Ocean Trench (about half an hour's drive from Coconuts)! It is absolutely incredible.

"Great place to relax in Samoa"
We stayed in an ocean view room at Sinalei resort for 4 nights. It is a truly wonderful place, set on a nice sheltered beach with manicured gardens through out. The rooms are first class, spacious, modern and well appointed. The restaurant is amazing, with a large variety of both samoan and contemporary choices available. The staff are very helpful and friendly, and can organize transfers, car hire and tours. This is great as Sinalei is close to some of Upolou's main attractions. Also, It is next door to Coconuts resort, which is a nice place to check out for a meal or cocktail. A cultural day is held on Wednesday at Sinalei, (and Coconuts has a similar day on Saturday which we attended), and was close to the highlight of the trip for us. It includes an umu cooking demonstration, fire dancing, singing and kava. Great fun, a must see while in samoa. All up, a great place to stay In Upolou. Highly recommended!
