Pickwick Hotel

The the hotel was very old, not updated, our rooms were very dirty, the toilets wouldn’t flush, the lighting was very dim, the windows had no screens and so on. The staff was very friendly and security seemed okay. We ahd 4 rooms. Three of them were the same condition. The fourth was a little better than the other three.

Filthy bedding.

The bedding was absolutely disgusting. Some of the stains were clearly fresh but the bedding had clearly not been cleaned for a long, long time. This ruined my stay at this hotel. I would never stay there again, ever.

Great location with nothing else to offer.

Great location and quaint lobby. Room dingy with old lip balm and candy bar behind heater unit. Huge cabinet took up much of floor space and held a very small TV which received no local stations. Louver door to bathroom fell off and appeared to have been installed by a person who failed high school shop. It was a louvered door because the sink was in the way of a normal door.

customer service didnt meet my expectation

besides the fact that the quality of the hotel and the rooms are not that great, the customer service didnt meet my expectation either. We asked to check in an hour earlier than their usual check-in time and they didn’t even pretend to do their best to accommodate that for me.

Beautiful!

I have lived in the Bay Area my whole life but when I stayed at the Pickwick it was like traveling to a different place in time! I loved every minute of it. The staff was very considerate about the Do Not Disturb sign, they were quiet until it was check out time. So wonderful after a late night of work. The hotel was also accomidating to the request for early check in. It made it so much easier to be able to rest between meetings.

Traveler's tip on shopping

The access to Nordstom’s and the San Francisco Shopping Center was so close I almost walked past it. Union Square was an exciting walk way. I was able to walk to all the shopping I could possibly do even if I’d had a week (and lots of money!) to do nothing but shop. Next time Tiffany’s for sure!

A

The elevator service was the best, the bathroom was the smallest I have seen, the bathroom door needed a dose of WD-40, the lights in the room were too dim to read, the rates for Sat and Sunday were unreasonable, the location was great, The TV was out the first day, the other 4 days the TV channels did not include NBC, CNN, Espn,a weather channell.

Excellent location. The friendliest people.

We will stay there again. the room was small but adaquate. reasonably furnished and clean. The staff was unbelieveably helpful and friendly. The location was perfect for us.

Shopping convenience

My daughter and I used the Pickwick Hotel during a last minute pre-college shopping trip at the City Center Mall. Couldn’t be more convenient! Could have been a little cleaner and the hotel is older, with the famous San Francisco small rooms. Bathroom had been remodeled nicely. Staff were pleasant and helpful.

Best hotel, Good location

My next stay in San Fran will be at the Pickwick hotel. Good location (Westfield, Macy’s, Bloomingdales, Cable car), very friendly staff, cozy rooms and clean. Def recommended!

Great location - away from the noise, but close to everything

SF has loud nightlife! But this hotel was just far enough away to avoid it. However, it was also close enough to jump on the cable cars, ride the subway, or catch the Muni metro system. Hotel is older, but maintained very well. Would stay there again!

Aging gracefully

The Pickwick has a wonderful location just off Powell and Market, not far from Union Square. The Hotel has seen grander days, but it’s an excellent lower-cost alternative to the Hilton, Hotel Nico, and the other top dollar places in the same neighborhood.

Traveler's tip on dining

Don’t miss House of Nanking in Chinatown. You will have to wait in line, but the line moves fast and it’s well worth the wait!

DON’T GO TO THIS HOTEL

My wife and I with a 3-yr-old daughter reserved a king size bed thru expedia 2 months ago before the trip, but when we checked in, the front desk could only give us a queen size, saying that all the kings were locked and would’t give us any other options. we had to stay in that tiny rm for 2 nights. It was a terrible experience in PICKWICK, I wouldn’t stay there any more.

Take a Step Back in Time

History buffs will appreciate the Hotel Pickwick, as a stay at this mausoleum is akin to a trip to an antebellum brothel. Heavy, Victorian curtains not only cover the windows but line every corridor, and the room was as musty and stale smelling as any room I’ve ever been in. The bed linens were old and worn, the paint was literally peeling off the walls, and the desk chair looked like it had been pulled from the local dump . . . by President Andrew Jackson. I don’t know which room they used for the photos now posted on the expedia website, but it’s got to be a hundred years ahead of the dumpy room I was assigned. Stay away.

reasonable

This hotel served its purpose - relatively inexpensive, and very conveniently located right next to Powell subway station. The rooms were simple but reasonably clean. Overall, this is a reasonable hotel.

not impressed

I asked for a refrigerator in the room, and after the 3rd time trying they say that they run out. I paid for the parking and when I came back to the hotel about 1 am the gage was locked and the valet guy was hanging out in the lobby.

Good value near Marriot

I stayed at the Pickwick while attending a conference at the Marriot. It was less than half the price of a room in the Marriot and a short walk away. Rooms show some age and are smaller than your average hotel room, but I thought it was very comfortable overall. The beds were nice, the room smelled fresh and there was decent temperature control and windows that you can open for fresh air. The staff was way more competent and friendly than I have come to expect.

Value and Proximity

It is an old hotel. The rooms are small. It was a good deal and it is in a great spot. We brought earplugs for city noise. Otherwise fine hotel.

Nice Hotel, but had issues

During our stay at the Pickwick Hotel, the fire alarm went off at 2:22 a.m. After evacuating the hotel, we were sent back to our rooms with the statement "the fires out" after about 20 minutes. Upon returning to our room and attempting to sleep, the fire alarm continued to go off, but for about 5-10 seconds each time. Upon checking out the next morning, no mention was made of the evacuation and no apologies were tendered. Service level at a hotel of this caliber should have informed us of the issue and offered some sort of discount. We will NOT be staying here again.

Location Location Location

The best thing about this hotel was location; perfectly situated on the edge of Market street, a short 2 min walk to the BART and Cable Car stop. Staff were attentive, and friendly. Rooms were comfortable if a tad cramped (would have been better without the huge TV cabinet), but otherwise perfectly acceptable and good value for money.

Small but great find

Beds are super comfy with down pillows and covers. Small but in SF dont expect to spend much time indoors. We would definitely stay there again.

Traveler's tip on saving a few bucks

Eat breakfast at the Cafe V it’s super cheap and very delicious.. Freshly squeezed OJ and Apple Juice.
