"Just a block from Dupont Circle"

I had a room in the back of the hotel that was clean and quiet. It was fully furnished with all sorts of amenities including bathrobe and toiletries that you don’t find in many hotels in that price range. There also was a fully stocked small refrigerator. The hotel is just a block off Dupont Circle with all of its neighborhood bars and restaurants. The hotel staff was friendly and helpful. My only complaint about my stay was that when I arrived with my rental car I had to park it illegally and run in to have it valet parked as there apparently was no reserved space in front of the hotel.

Husband’s first trip to D.C.

Could not have been more comfortable! The king mattress was super, the room was stylish and very clean. My husband and I stayed at Hotel Madera for 8 nights and we really enjoyed our D.C. trip! Very close to the Dupont metro. Hotel has a very nice restaurant, Firefly.

Kimpton for life

We loved this hotel!! The staff was AMAZING! Anything we needed at any hour, we got it and it was their pleasure. From now on, the first thing I’ll do when I go somewhere is check to see where to closest Kimpton hotel is. I love it!

One of the best hotels

The Hotel Madera is one of the best hotels I have ever stayed in. It is a small hotel situated in a neighborhood but close to all. Restaurants and just two blocks to the metro. The staff was very nice and helpful. Every time we went out, they would say have a great day and every time we came back they would say welcome back. Nice touch. When we checked in, the first thing I noticed, was a dish of dog biscuits on the counter. They welcome dogs there. I have three dogs ( I didn’t bring them) so I thought that was cool. They also have a wine reception in the lobby every evening for one hour. When we came in from our long day of site seeing, it was nice to relax with a nice glass of wine. Even the other people staying in the hotel were nice. The restaurant in the hotel, The Firefly, is rather pricey but the food was amazing. The wait staff were knowledgeable about the menu. The room was spacious but the bathroom is tiny, the only drawback we found. It had a huge flat screen TV and free WIFi. We loved staying there and would do so again.

Excellent location and great boutique hotel

This boutique hotel is located just 1.5 blocks south of Dupont Circle, 5 min walk to the Metro as well as numerous shops, cafes, and restaurants. It’s a perfect location if you like to be in an area that has a great nightlife scene and is convenient to the Metro. While the hotel does not have many public areas (the lobby is just an entrance), there is a great restaurant attached and the rooms are well-appointed and have a modern design. And the hotel offers great extras like cookies and milk in the evening and evening wine and cheese. Definitely would stay here again.

Nice location

I like this chain but didn’t get the quiet room I wanted. I would probably stay at a different Klimpton hotel.

Traveler's tip on getting the most out of your stay

Metro, Metro, Metro. A perfect way to see the city. But also make sure to take a walk into Georgetown and along the Potomac. The Metro doesn’t run there.

Pretty nice for Expedia’s price

Room was large and very comfortable. Stylish decor (and SOMETHING in the front lobby smells great! :)). Our room overlooked New Hampshire Avenue, but other than the sirens at night, was very quiet. Hotel is pet-friendly, but you wouldn’t know it (in Florida, ’Pet-friendly hotel’ usually means ’dump’)...they even put out signs welcoming the furry friends of the day. Free wireless internet (you just have to sign up for KimptonRewards, which is free anyways)and a very well-stocked mini-bar. One warning: as with a lot of hotels, the use of their computer in their business center is quite pricey. We would have used our laptop but we needed to print out our boarding passes for the next morning. Other than that, very nice hotel for the price we got.

Traveler's tip on saving a few bucks

If you are going to DC and are going to be sticking to the tourist sights, don’t get a car. Stick to the Metro. It’s a little worn, as are most subway/train systems, but we found it very reliable. And really, the price can’t be beat. You think you’re going to get a cab from Dupont Circle to the Smithsonian for $1.35? :) Look at the Washington Metro’s website and get a SmartTrip card. It’s worth the money.

Quality at a good price

The Madera is a nice, small hotel that we chose because it was near where we needed to be at GW. Our stay was excellent, the room was sophicated and comfortable but a little small, the staff were very friendly and accomodating, and the wine hour was a nice touch and a chance talk to other guests. I enjoyed my stay and will stay there again.

Traveler's tip on saving a few bucks

If you are there on a weekend, you can save the expensive parking fees by finding a meter or street parking that is free from 6 p.m. on Saturday until Monday morning.

Stay here if you get a really good deal

It was good other than these few complaints: 1/ the lobby carpet was dirty and uninviting 2/ Our room had kind of a faint sewer smell unless we had the a/c on full blast. 3/ the elevator was very noisy -- we could hear it in our room almost constantly. 4/ the cookies they served at night were not freshly baked. They were plain old oreos. And don’t get excited about the free afternoon ice cream -- unless you like push-ups.

Traveler's tip on getting the most out of your stay

This hotel is very close to the Metro. There are also many restaurants nearby. But they are kind of hard to find unless you are familiar with the neighborhood.

Xlnt Value For Money

First off, the staff were exemplary in every respect -- knew me by name within a day, and were extremely freindly, helpful and responsive. The morning coffee service was also great (quality and convenience), and this place had, for the rate, without a doubt the most comprehensively stocked minibar I’ve ever seen (and not just the array of food and beverage). Room was smallish and the WC was...cozy...but the decor compsensated nicely. Well situated between Foggy Bottom and Dupont, so easy to get around and easy access to red, blue and yellow metro lines. All in all, would definitely stay there again on business, and looking forward to trying out other Kimptons.

Nice boutique hotel in Dupont Circle

We stayed at the Hotel Madera for 5 nights in July. We found a great deal on Expedia. The location is lovely--Dupont Circle is a fun neighborhood with many restaurants and a residential feel. Madera is just a 5-7 minute walk to subway. The room was small, but with enough room for an easy chair, an ottoman, and comfortable King size bed. We asked for a quiet room (reiterated this on arrival) and were given exactly that--we heard nothing the whole time we were there. Our room had an odd layout, with the entrance to the bathroom exactly opposite the head of the bed, not "around the corner" as in most hotel rooms. That was less than ideal because it didn’t allow one person to get ready in the morning without waking the other. But it was a small inconvenience. They offer complementary coffee and newpapers in the (tiny) lobby in the morning (NYT, Washington Post), wine in the afternoon (but for only a very short time), and cookies late at night (just Oreos). We tried the Firefly for dessert one night but service was really slow and so we didn’t go back for dinner. All in all a nice, quiet, relaxing place--we would go back.

Traveler's tip on getting the most out of your stay

We took taxis this time, instead of the subway. It was really worth it; some of the metro stations are quite a hike from what you want to see-- very tiring in hot weather. Dining--The Cafe in Krammerbooks off Dupont Circle is fantastic for meals at any time of day--great food, friendly service, fun for people watching.

Great Personable Hotel

The staff was very friendly and accommodating. The complimentary coffee, ice-cream & wine bar were great, although we didn’t get to most of them because of all the sightseeing. The hotel is small and quaint. We had an electric scooter and it was a little difficult maneuvering in the tight hallways, but it still worked out. Convenient location only 2 blocks from the Dupont Circle Metro stop. Would not hesitate to recommend this hotel to all my friends.

Stylish Hotel HUGE Room

This hotel was small but had so much style and personality. The room was HUGE, comfortable and very clean. The only drawback was that the carpet was soaked by where the ac unit was and the elevator was really rickety and I got stuck between floors for a couple of mins before it unjammed itself. Minor compared to how gorgeous the room was for the price.

Gem of a hotel has the best beds ever!

This delightful boutique hotel off Dupont Circle and a twenty minute walk to the White House is friendly and clean, with spacious rooms and wonderfully comfortable beds. The staff was hospitable and eager to provide us with information to make our DC stay as easy as possible. We loved going to the lobby for a glass of wine or sangria at the end of the afternoon after a long day of sightseeing and walking. We would stay at the Hotel Madera again anytime, and highly recommend this hotel to DC visitors. The Dupont Circle location is great for restaurants and cafes, the Phillips Collection Art Gallery, the metro, the Dupont/Georgetown shuttle bus, and a Sunday morning organic market.

Friendly , Fun and Green

I liked the uniqueness of this hotel-- built in an old apartment building, some spaces were tight, but it gave it personality. Their Internet worked all the time and was fast, which was so nice! They use eco-friendly products and organic coffee and teas, which I appreciated. In the morning, they had the coffee and tea service, the one afternoon we were there, they had frozen lemonade popsicles for us (it was hot!), from 5-6 p.m. the served wine and later at night they had Oreos and milk. We didn’t make all of these, but when we did it was fun. The front desk staff were really helpful and always smiling. They were good for restaurant recommendations, calling taxis, and holding our baggage when we had a few hours to kill before leaving for the airport. I would go back, but I would also consider trying one of the other Kimpton hotels since they all seem to have a unique flair to them.

If you want a large chain Hotel, this is not for you.

Great location close to the metro. we were there for a week and did not drive once. Not a lot of outlets in the room. We had for people and it was comfortable. Bathroom on the small side. Love the morning coffee, evening wine, and late night cookies. Dupont circle is full of resturants (all price ranges). Parking is expensive but no choice when you stay in DC. Wish they would at least had some sort of continental breakfast, however they do not have the space for it, it is on the smaller side. Staff was very friendly & we waited for nothing. Overall it was a nice place to stay.

Commitment to social equality a plus

I greatly enjoyed my stay; because of scheduling couldn’t participate in afternoon gathering around complementary wine, but loved the homey cookies & milk at bedtime. Really appreciated the hotel’s commitment to empowerment of women and minorities and to good environmental policies. Hope to come back, and visit chain in other cities.

A great hotel, very reasonably priced in the winter!

Located close to everything! I had a wonderful stay; my only complaint was the noise from the elevator that I could hear in my room on the 10th floor. It woke me up a few times. I would ask for a room further away from the elevator next time.

Traveler's tip on local attractions

Located a 2-min walk to Dupont Circle metro (red line) --- centrally located hotel. Close to everything.
