Great Hotel for moderate price
The palomar was located just a few steps from the BART station on Market Street, a short walk to Union Square, the Powell Street Streetcar and a couple of blocks from the Moscone Center where my conference was. The hotel was clean, comfortable and well appointed. I would stay there again.

Amazing Experience for Anniversary!
I booked my parents a hotel room here for the weekend for their 40th wedding anniversary. I had notified the hotel that it was a special day for them and was hoping they would provide them with a nice room with a view of union square. I had no idea that the staff at this hotel would be so unbelieveably exceptional! My parents called me from San Francisco to let me know that the staff had upgraded them to a Suite and it was so lovely! They later went and participated in the wine tasting in the lobby (one of the things I love about Kimptons) and when they got back to their room the front desk had left champagne and strawberries in their room for them! My parents must have called me five times on thier two day trip to tell me how pleased they were with their hotel experience, everything from how they slept, to the friendliness of the staff, to the fantastic location right on Union Square. I had to tell them to stop calling to tell me how great it is and to simply go enjoy it! Considering there are hundreds of hotels in San Francisco, I am very happy to have discovered this gem in the heart of this bustling city. I would book another room here without hesitation. If you are looking for a hotel that provides exceptional service, total comfort and a fantastic location, look no further than Hotel Palomar!
We always seem to go to San Francisco in late October, and while you would think that the eve of winter would be chilly in the city by the bay, it is truly the best time to go. The skies are always blue, theres a crisp breeze, hardly any fog, and the sun is shining!

Cozy hotel in great location!
If youre coming to San Francisco to be in the middle of everything or for a convention, then this is a great hotel! Its on the corner of Market and 4th. A block and a half away from the Moscone Center. Its in the heart of all the shopping -- just a couple of blocks away from Union Square. The bus stops just outside the front door, and there is a subway stop around the corner. And, you can catch a true cable car from just a couple of blocks away, too. There are several restaurants nearby - Mels Diner, and indian restaurant, and a bakery are just steps away. The room was very clean and quiet and kinda modern/trendy. Flat screen, big TV, etc. And, the hotel does have its own restaurant on the 5th floor. And, two movie theatres are less than a block away, too! Loved this location!

Cant beat the location
Very nice hotel. Courteous and attentive staff on duty at the front desk. Surprisingly quiet room considering hotels location on super busy Market St. (double-sealed insulated windows). MUNI, BART, and F-line historic streetcar quite literally stop at the front door. Cable Car one block away.
Traveler's tip on shopping
Walgreens around the corner. Buy a MUNI 7 Day Tourist pass for just $24.00. You can ride on everything with it.

LGBT friendly
Hello, I am a professional drag king who recently visited SF for a performance. I stayed three nights at the SF Palomar and felt very welcomed and comfortable there. Of course, when I walked into the front lobby one night in drag, I was stopped by the doorman and asked to show my identification. When I flashed my female drivers license to the front desk person, she didnt raise an eyebrow. That often is not the case for me, in spite of the level of quality hotels that I choose. A special thanks to the concierge staff members, D.C. and Jake.

very nice hotel
We were very happy with this hotel. We were close to everything. Public transportation was right outside the door, and everything was within walking distance. Lots of shopping right around the corner. The service was wonderful. our room was cleaned in a timely manner, and the decor was very impressive. The restaurant was very expensive for breakfast. We would stay there again

great hotel
As a regular traveler to SF, I stayed in the Palomar for leisure and loved it. Its in the heart of the shopping district and public transportation to anywhere (including the Cable Cars) is easily accessible from the front door. The restaurant "The Fifth Floor" was truly an excellent dining experience. The desk staff and concierge was friendly and most helpful. The room was posh, the mattress was PERFECT. The only drawback was that the thermostat in the room was difficult to adjust. Ill stay here again.

Great place to stay!
I cant say enough about this place. The staff, the accommodations, the location which gives you easy access to a variety of public transit. (You can even take BART from SFO to Powell Street and you are about half a block from the hotel.) Now I once lived in San Francicso, so I knew that the Market Street area around 4th is not exactly picturesque. (But the trade-off is quick access to BART, Muni, the cable car, and a large shopping mall with a food market in the basement.) And I also knew the Hotel Palomar was built on top of a store, which means there is no grand lobby. But none of that mattered. I was treated wonderfully by the friendly and courteous staff. All you need is a smile and they return it many times. When a light bulb popped, there was someone there literally in minutes to fix it. I would stay there again any time. In fact, I wish I could go back next week!

awesome stay
We stayed at the Hotel Palomar for three nights and could not have been more pleased. We traveled to the hotel on the BART and the station stop is only a block away which saved us a lot of money. We had called ahead to see if they would store our bags until check-in time (answer yes) however they had our room available upon arrival. Clean room, wonderfully soft bed, awesome view from the 9th floor, made our trip a wonderful experience!
Traveler's tip on local attractions
City Segway Tours- a fun way to see parts of the city. Sears Fine Food- near the hotel and a good breakfast (be prepared to wait in line) Sams Grill on Bush Street-had an amazing dinner and the best sourdough bread in the city!

Great Place in Great Location.
My wife and I stayed there during 4th of July weekend and it was a very nice place. Clean rooms, great downtown location just steps from the Powell Bart station which saved us money by not paying for a cab. We asked for a fan for our room because we like the noise when sleeping and they brought one up minutes later. I also left some shirts in the closet on accident and they mailed them back to me. I paid the postage but I thought that was nice of them to take care of it with no issue.
Traveler's tip on saving a few bucks
Take the BART (Subway) from SFO airport to the Powell station which is only a block away.

Best SF Hotel!
My boyfriend and I headed to San Francisco over the 4th of July and chose to stay at the Hotel Palomar based on reviews of others. It was an excellent choice! The staff, service and rooms were great! Everyone was so nice and accommodating -- upon check-in, Keta gave us a map of SF and gave us some advice on good places to visit and how to get there. DC was an excellent concierge and was friendly and helpful. I definitely recommend this place!
Traveler's tip on saving a few bucks
Get the $11 day pass to take all trolleys, buses and subways. Its $5 to use each service one way, so you definitely save a lot of money with the day pass!

Where to Stay for WWDC
We had not been to San Francisco before so choosing our hotel was purely by chance. I needed something close for walking to the convention center... it was two blocks away! Cable cars of buses were also available literally right out the front door of the hotel. Our room was very nice. With all new upgraded flat panel TV and free Wi-Fi in our rooms. A king size bed that was better than ours at home. Being on the seventh floor gave us a great view of the busy streets below. The staff was extremely helpful and polite with all our questions. Im sure there was a friendship made during our stay. We will be back next year for the WWDC and we will most likely be staying here again.

Very Nice but .....
As far as the hotel goes, it was a very nice and well kept hotel. The service was very friendly. The only complaint that I have about this hotel is that the website said that parking was $42. When I arrived I found out its $45 and not for the whole stay but $45/day. They did resolve the issue by giving us a 20% discount on the parking but that is still way more than the $42 I was expecting to pay. I understand that this is a downtown hotel so everything that I needed to get to was in walking distance but Im from the east coast so while I was there, I wanted to explore a little more than whats walking or mass transit distance away. I would have never rented a car if I knew it was going to be that much.

I want to live there
I could not wait to get home to write this review. I will never, stay in another hotel in SF. The Palomar is above Old Navy at the corner of Powell & Market. The BART/muni Powell street exit is just around the corner from the entrance to the hotel. The room is small and minimalist in its furnishing but clean and stylish. The bed was amazing, we actually pulled the sheets off in the morning to write down the brand/style of the mattress. The pillows and comforter were great too -- even the toiletries were great. We arrived around noon and thought wed just ask to store our luggage until check-in at 3pm, but they gave us a room and when we checked out they offered to hold our bags as long as we needed. The hotel was as quiet as it could be for the city, I personally have never understood people who complain about street noise when they stay in a hotel in Union Square -- for me thats part of the travel experience. We had an inward facing room but could still hear the street and wasnt bothered at all by it. The hotel itself was silent. The hotel probably isnt "kid friendly" in the sense that there isnt anything for kids to do there at the hotel, but I wouldnt hesitate staying at the hotel with my children -- who goes to SF to play in a hotel anyway?
great central location, very reasonably priced -- safe area. Do yourself a favor and ditch the car, take Bart into the City and use the buses and Muni to get around, youll save on parking fees and have a much more enjoyable time.

Great deal, convenient location
I recently stayed here - the location was very convenient to the BART (getting to and from the airport was a breeze). The room I had was large and in good condition, the front desk people were friendly and accomodating, and I also enjoyed the wine reception. No complaints, and Ive stayed in many a hotel over the years I have had of business and leisure travel. I dont believe they have bfrast options, but there are plenty of places within easy walking distance. Free Wi-Fi is a nice touch - plenty of hotels in this category charge for it which always irks me.
