Will be back!

We were a little surprised by the location on arrival..not what we expected. We were given a room with double beds after we requested a king. We got to our room on the 6th floor and were wondering why the room came with earplugs. After the first night, I asked if we could be moved to a king room since it was our anniversary. We were upgraded to a king suite on the 23rd floor! We had a gorgeous view of the bay, Coit tower and Alcatraz! It was fantastic. The beds were comfortable and the staff was very accomodating! It is a noisy area and we heard sirens and screaming all thru the night. But the whole city seemed to be really noisy. We definitely plan on staying here again!

Not If You Want a Decent Night’s Sleep!

We stayed here based on its convenient location and the promise of a king room with a nice view. That much was delivered, and all was fine until about 3 in the morning, when the occupants of the adjoining room came in. They were not particularly loud -- but you could hear every word of their conversation through walls that must lack sufficient sound insulation. We figured at least we could sleep in the following morning. But their clock alarm went off at 7, and they kept hitting the snooze button every ten minutes for an hour. I have never before in a hotel heard a standard alarm in another room through the walls. The hotel must know of the problem, given the pair of earplugs that were lying on a bedstand. I complained the next morning to the one clerk on duty, and it was evident that she had heard similar complaints before. She said it must have been that the adjoining room had a common door (though it did not); that’s an excuse you might accept from a $39/night hotel, not a Hilton. We had booked through Expedia, and even their intervention produced nothing -- they said Hilton even claimed that there was no record of anyone complaining that morning. (I guess when you tell the one clerk on duty that you just spent the worst night you ever had in a hotel, and provide the specifics I just gave, that doesn’t qualify as a "complaint.") This is a nicely situated property but undeserving of a Hilton.

Traveler's tip on getting the most out of your stay

Avoid this Hilton. In the area, maybe try the Boheme first. Wouldn’t have the same view. But if you don’t need a a Hilton or an Omni, and you’re looking for a place convenient to the North Beach area it’s right there, and has good reviews otherwise.

Great view & location

Haven’t been back for ages and seems like they have done a great update from the Holiday Inn days. The view of Coit tower was excellent and location is easy to get to via car.

nicely renovated hotel

this hotel has been nicely renovated. the room was extremely comfortable and the bed was luxurious. the bathroom was adequate. the only downside that i noticed was the long wait for elevators. otherwise, i would highly recommend this hotel for a business stay.

Like the view from the room

Hotel is located in the midst of S.F.’s Chinatown and rooms offer views of an active vibrant cultural like of its residents. While working at the desk, I viewed a woman on a building rooftop hanging laundry! This made me feel happy staying at the Hilton!

Traveler's tip on nightlife

You are close to many restaurants and clubs located in the newly renovated waterfront area. The Shanghai 1930 Club is great for jazz.

It was just Okay

The hotel was nice, although not very luxurious...it was really small... last year i went to SF and stayed at the Hyatt and it was a HUGE difference. The hilton was smaller and everything just didnt compare. The quality of service was better at the Hyatt and it was cleaner and all for the same price, so you get more bang for your buck at the Hyatt.

Traveler's tip on local attractions

Its right next to the financial district and china town. Like literally next to both of these so that was good. It was about a mile and a half from the piers & the embarcadero where fisherman’s wharf was, so it was close enough to walk there =) it was also only a couple miles away from union square so we were able to walk there too.

One of my two choices every time we travel.

We always consider Hilton as one of the hotels we prefer to stay. When we made our reservation with Expedia, there was a specific statement that we were going to have a king size bed. It was a little disappointment, the room was so little, the bed was a double bed, definitely not even a queen bed. The location was excellent though.

Traveler's tip on local attractions

Wear good walking shoes.

A good value for money + conveniently located

Nice business hotel in downtown San Francisco. The entire building has recently been remodeled. The rooms are modern, clean and offer great views of SF. The hotel is within walking distance of Chinatown.

Nicer hotels for same price

Hotel isn’t in good location, isn’t nearly as nice as it looks online, rooms overlook school playground so there is a lot of noise early in the morning, staff not very helpful.

good location

Good location with easy access to Chinatown, Union Square and Little Italy. Only frustrating problem was the room key kept malfunctioning so we would have to go back down 15 stories to the front desk to get a new one. It happened 3 times!! Otherwise a nice stay and a nice clean room with view overlooking the city.

Great Location, Service, So-So Amenities

We weren’t spending much time in the hotel, so it didn’t really matter that our room and the hotel didn’t have some of the common amenities that a lot of other places have (like a mini-fridge in the room) but the room was modern and clean, our view was spectacular (bay view), and the location is perfectly situated between Chinatown, North Beach, Downtown, and the Embarcadero area.

Good Location but expected more.

Hotel is located in a location near the financial district just south and within walking distance of Chinatown and North Beach. Easy to walk to North Beach that had very good Italian restaurants. Concierge was always very helpful with recommendations of where to eat. Overall the rooms are small (this was a family vacation with 2 kids and 2 adults). The availability of TV stations was limited especially during the evening hours. TV’s are older and need to be upgraded (surprised for a Hilton Hotel). Occasionally hotel employee’s were sometimes not very friendly with the exception of the various Concierge on staff. Also hotel does not have a pool for traveling families with kids.

Traveler's tip on dining

Excellant Chinese Restuarant: R & G on Kearny 1/2 block from the hotel. All Italian Resturants on Columbus were very good (but a little expensive) for people traveling with kids (no children menus) This hotel is centrally located. Easy to get to SF sights by trolley, public transportation (bus)

Great spa, service reasonable

The check-in process and getting a taxi was very slow. The hotel lobby was very chaotic with people all over. The hotel was clean and rooms comfortable. The spa was fabulous and very convenient. It would have been nice to have a robe in the room for those going to the spa.

Not enough elevators for all the guests.

Doesn’t look like much from the outside but nice inside. If you get the executive level (over 23 floor), continental breakfast is included.

Traveler's tip on dining

Go to Good Mong Kok Bakery for take out dim sum. Better than at any restaurant and much cheaper. R & G Lounge is overrated.

SF’s Great Hotel

We love this hotel. We got a room in 19 floor with a because city view. The room was very nice and clean. Staff were very friendly. Even though the parking fee is a little bit higher than other place but it’s safer. If we have chance to go back to San Francisco, we will stay here again.

Concierge Desk

The Concierge Desk is very helpful and can direct you to all the sites in San Francisco and save you money.

buy the 3 or 5 day bus/cable car pass. The cable cars are always crowded and no room. The buses is the best bet at getting to your locations. Take plenty of cool weather clothing, gets really cool.

Positive experience

Although we were on the 9th floor, the room windows allowed quite a bit of noise into the room from the street below. Made sleeping a little difficult

Nice hotel; excellent location

Very good hotel, on the brink of Chinatown; clean room, excellent room service. Multimedia equipment a bit out of date (old TVs). Wireless service OK but no wired service (so important when You need to work via secure connection).

Traveler's tip on local attractions

Next door to Chinatown; 10 minute walk to pier.

Towels fit for armadillos only!!

Central location is excellent; hotel ’extras’ are unreasonably priced; the towels were like sandpaper; front desk hospitality was lacking; consierege was often ’missing in action’; restaurant food options were forgettable.

Traveler's tip on dining

We recommend breakfast out of the hotel. Good spots abound if you have time to investigate!
