Location Location Location!
We were in D.C. for five days on vacation. We chose Red Roof Inn for the price and location. The rooms were small - European style, and there were small issues, such as the bathroom door wouldnt completely latch. However, we were only in the hotel as a place to sleep and it served that purpose just fine. We found the staff to be friendly and helpful, the on-site restaurant was very good, and the area, in the heart of Chinatown, had so much to offer. The restaurants offer a variety of Asian cuisines, and there is a terrific bar with 100s of varieties of beer two blocks down. We walked everywhere, but the hotel is only two short blocks walk to a major Metro station. If you arent a person to spend copious amounts of time in your room, and you want convenience, this is definitely the place.
If youre up to it, walk. The entire city has walkways and sidewalks to make this easy, and you save money this way. Most major attractions are free, so your only daily costs will be meals.

Fab location for the price - walking distance from the Mall & museums
In the heart of Chinatown with great eats at very reasonable prices. Good location and proximity to the underground makes this a good hotel choice for families on a budget

well-located option
Perfectly fine room, quiet and well-located near Building Museum, Smithsonian Art Museum and within a reasonable walk to Union Station, White House and dining options. Close to some Chinatown cheap bus pick-up points, also. Lobby is bit bare bones, but there is a restaurant/pub on the property. Prices were very good.

red roof inn downtown washington DC
I had a fine stay there. Economical, good proximity to downtown sights, offices, etc. Clean and very professional service. The irish pub attached to the hotel is also quite good.

Very good place with reasonale rate
It has very good access to a lot of famous places. It also has good access to exotic asian restaurants. And, It was clean and comfort. I was satisfied with this hotels rate, location. Only thing that I can complain is that I could not see smiling faces of service persons.

Washington Red Roof - A lot of Bang For The Buck
I recently flew into D.C. for a day long meeting at the Washington Marriott at Metro Center, but opted to stay at the Red Roof seven walkable blocks away. It was a good choice. The room was clean, comfortable, and far less expensive than the Metro Center. I have no complaints whatsoever, and will do it again next time I go to D.C.
Traveler's tip on dining
Located in Chinatown, this hotel has a nice selection of cozy, inexpensive Chinese Restaurants within walking distance.

No problems
I had no problems with this hotel. There was parking under the hotel but it was $20/day. Room service was not 24/7 so if you needed towels or anything you have to go to the front desk yourself. The room was clean and there were no problems except I was expecting a fridge and microwave from the pictures but there were none.

Traveler from California
Alonso at the front desk was very helpful. I arrived after midnight and he provided me with information on where I could get something to eat and arranged for a taxi to be available at 5:30 AM. The hotel room was clean and as described, the walls were a bit thin but it wasnt a major concern. Also, I didnt find any bugs so that was a plus. There was a pub in the hotel lobby that was open till 2 AM and they were courteous as well. There were lots of sights to see within walking distance, overall I would stay here again.

Good value in downtown Washington
Room was small and clean but not attractive. Bed was comfortable. It seems to be quite a good value for downtown Washington. No free internet. Service was very good. Good breakfast in Irish pub adjoining hotel lobby. Limited parking spaces in basement garage. Located in Chinatown, near Metro and within walking distance of most Federal museums and monuments.

great value
I hadnt stayed in a Red Roof Inn in probably 20 years; was pleasantly surprised at how much the chain has upgraded. It was just the right balance (for me) of comfortable/clean and budget/modest. I actually liked that the towels *werent* really thick and that they *didnt* leave two pounds worth of bath soap - hand soap - face soap - shampoo - conditioner - mouthwash - hand lotion - shoe mitt and all the usual plastic crap. Great location, too.

Noisy and dirty
Dirty - First thing I noticed was that the room had not been vacuumed. Noise - The walls were very thin and the other guests seem to be the noisier less considerate type. The rooms fan/air con unit was also very noisy. The only option for internet service was paying for it. Many hotels these days offer it for free.

Good, Easy Place. Great deal in DC
We were looking for a cheap and easy place to stay for 2 nights in DC to tour the city. This place was great! It was close enough to everything, but far enough away that it was still very affordable. It was clean and not "budget" budget. There was a restaurant downstairs that was always busy and there were tons of places to go nearby. It was a drive to Dupont Circle, and you are kind of in the middle of Chinatown, but for the price and the quality, for a tourists visit to Washington, it was great. And pets are allowed!
Traveler's tip on local attractions
The Holocaust Museum is incredible. My dog got fleas at the Lincoln Memorial. Book your tour of the White House very far in advance. Dupont Circle is the place to go for fun outdoor restaurants and bars.

Very good quality/price report
The Hotel is newly refurbished, the personel is very nice and helpful, the breakfest was good with the exception of cofee wich was still acceptable. Even it takes 30 min to reach by bus and metro Times square weve enjoyed it.

nice for the price
Excellent location. Walking distance from touristic places. I couldnt find many places around to breakfast. Only the Irish pub downstairs (with american breakfast - eggs, bacon) and the packed Starbucks - 3 blocks away.

Good for the money
Convenient albeit with a short taxi or moderate walk. Hotel was more than adequate, especially for the money. Clean, staff was friendly and helpful. Would like to have had breakfast included. Has a sit down coffee shop, that is ok. Also a couple of other choices nearby (including a Burger King). Parking not the best but worked out ok...a cramped area under hotel that filled up. We always got a space, if we didnt they said they would credit us our parking money and send us down the street to one that always had space. We never had to do that. Summary - I will definitely consider it in the future, and have already suggested it to people on a budget.

Fine for a brief business trip
This hotel is fine for a reasonably-priced brief business stay. The separate Irish bar located on the first floor serves a decent breakfast but other options are nearby. The proximity to the METRO is a plus.

A great trip to Washington
This was a great hotel for the price. My family and I had 3 days to spend in Washington, DC and this hotel was in the best location. We were only 5 blocks from the Capitol building and the Art museum. The room was small, but clean. You had to pay extra for the safe (which was worth it), an internet connection and parking ($20/day). The restaurant/bar in the hotel is average. There are plenty of other interesting places to try. Also, be prepared for EXPENSIVE food all throughout Washington. Every meal the 4 of us had was a minimum of $100. The cafe at the Museum of the American Indian was great...but, you guessed it...expensive. Of course, the muesums are free so I guess it all balances out. We took our bikes with us at the suggestion of Fodors travel guide. It was a great idea. This hotel let us lock our bikes up in thier basement garage and we always felt that they were safe. Biking is the only way to see the city. It is so spread out! Our best night was biking to the Jefferson memorial. The views were spectacular. Just watch out for traffic...those people go through yellow and red lights every chance they get!! So the bottom line is this: this hotel isnt going to win any luxury prizes..but its great for a vacationing family.
Traveler's tip on dining
This location lands you only 1 block away from the greatest Chinese restaurant we found...Chinatown Express! Stop by for the freshly made, hand rolled noodles and dumplings. 1 block in the other direction you can find a nice wine/cigar shop that has "pairing parties" on the weekends. Oyamel, a great restaurant that serves "little plates", is only 3 blocks away. Try the cricket tacos...but only 1 (ICK!).

Not Bad At All
Reviews here have been mixed. I stayed overnight in a business suite. Room was clean and well appointed. Front desk staff very friendly and helpful (made a point of getting me in my room at 11 am when I arrived). Location is excellent with short walk access to Metro. Shopping, theaters, restaurants all close by.

Great hotel
The Red Roof Washington DC is a great hotel in Chinatown. Great location not far from the mall with lots of places to eat within a few blocks. The metro station is just two blocks away. The front desk staff are friendly and accomodating. When we asked for a late checkout they said no problem. Since the hotel is in a busy location you get a lot of traffic noise from the street if you get a corner room.
