Best Hotel in San Francisco

San Francisco’s BEST hotel. The hotel staff couldn’t be more accommodating. My husband and I were extremely satisfied.

Our favorite restaurants in SF are Gary Danko and Acquerillo. You will love the food.

Mandarin Orientale

The staff and service was what you’d expect from a five star hotel, attentive and gracious. The room was quite small although clean. Although we had neighbors room noise was minimal so enjoyed peaceful sleep. The bed was quite comfortable but the controls for the t.v. was confusing to this senior citizen. The hotel is situated close to China Town and in walking distance. The area seemed quite safe during the day but I’d not walk around anywhere in SF at night. I was plesantly surprised NOT to find street people in the near vicinity. BART is a couple of blocks away so travel is simple. The hotel had a parking special so we did not have to pay the $50.00/day usual charge. We had a nice time and would not hesitate to go there again but next time we’ll opt for a bigger room.

Roy’s Hawaiian Fusion Restaurant is a few blocks away on Misson Street. The food was terrific but too noisy for us older folks. The younger generation (30ish) seemed to be having a good time with the loud often boisterous talking and music. Service was not outstanding.

Great View!

Stayed for the first time for my Husband’s 40th bday... though the room seemed rather small for the price (Bay View King room) you can’t beat the view! I thought about staying at the Ritz, but with only 8 floors it is a far cry from the 41st floor that we were on while at the Mandarin. You will not be disappointed. We had some minor issues with our in-room breakfast service, but overall it was nice to sit there in the morning, drink Ghiradelli hot chocolate, and take in the sunny view of the bay. We also enjoyed the highly acclaimed Mandarin High Tea while we were there - definitely delicious! A must for anyone staying there for the first time. Overall, I would definitely go back and recommend it to family and friends. The service is great and what you would expect from a 5 star hotel.

Traveler's tip on local attractions

Try the Walking Chocolate Tour.. though pricey ($50 pp) it is a treat to try 5-7 different chocolatiers, great samples, more than enough chocolate, and interesting history about the city and it’s chocolate!

Spectacular

The Mandarin is near the Bart and easy to get to from the Airport. I special requested a room on the 48th floor for my 48th Birthday and recieved a complementary upgrade to a Bay View room. The room was nicely deocorated in an elegant asian style with spectacular views. The staff was ultra accomodating and service outstanding. The gym was adaquate for a good workout and the concierge had several jogging maps depending on how far I wanted to jog. They even handed me bottled water upon my return. I recommend this hotel for sure.

Visited to celebrate an anniversary. The services from the concierges were execllent before and during the trip, and the room was very well appointed. Would definitely go back.

seems like a 3 star hotel...

the room and elevator is WAY too small for a five star hotel. people at the desk tried to charge the drink that we didn’t drink. parking fee is $45 dollars per day...what do you think about it?

NOT WHAT YOU’D EXPECT

For the Mandarin’s star rating you would expect a lot more. Employees are great but management has a total disregard for their Patron’s comfort. Services (such as the lounge) were taken from guests and given to private parties with NO notice or any attempt at another form of satisfaction for guests. Only 2 elevators and one was constantly in repair. The restaurant "Silks" is vastly overrated. Do yourself a favor and go to the Fairmont.

Fabulous in every way

Everything was lovely--room decor and comfort. Service top notch--housekeeping put ice in the bucket w/o being asked, front desk, concierge and valet employees all great. Lots of high end hotels claim to have great service but few really do--this one does.

Great location...get High floor room...poor/slow service

Fine except for room service and valet...both slow/confused(ing)and way too expensive! Bar is small and closes early...high-floors are a MUST!

Almost Right

New Management and selective upgrades still miss the mark set by other San Francisco five star hotels - come on, can movies on demand be that difficult to provide for one of the City’s best known, high end hotels? Just a bit dated and staff that needs time to gel.

Guaranteed Best View and Personalized Service in SF

My husband and I planned made our plans to visit Napa Valley. We decided to stay at the Mandarin Oriental because our last stay was very brief and we wanted to enjoy the hotel. One of main reasons why we chose this hotel is for the view. Since the rooms start from the 20-something floor, the view in every room is incredible. From the moment my husband and I stepped out of our car, the wonderful service started. The doorman, the receptionist and the bellhop addressed us by our names. We never had to wait for anything. If one employee was busy, another one stepped in to assist. A few minutes after we settled into our room, complimentary tea and cookies arrived. After traveling, it’s a welcomed gesture of hospitality. Our room was beautifully decorated and spectacular view of the city and the bay. We rented a car to get to Napa. The concierge has prepared printed nstructions for every major destination you can possibly want. Getting to Napa and the SF Airport was so simple. We’re definitely going to stay at this hotel again!

Getting around was very simple. However, if it’s raining, getting a taxi in front of the hotel is difficult since it’s located in the middle of the block. I suggest that you walk to the corner of the street to catch a taxi.

There is nothing the concierge can’t do. They literally delivered on a nymber of last minute requests made for dinner reservations and travel arrangements.

Wonderful Hotel

Was a great hotel with friendly staff. They even catered well to my little Yorkie Lucy Lu. The hotel arranged for us to have a very nice steak dinner as well.We had a wonderful stay.
