Investigate the diverse people and landscapes of Magdalena, by by taking to the open road and exploring a couple of the other towns and cities around Aracataca. Interesting places within a relatively short distance of Aracataca are Bello Horizonte Beach, 40 miles (64 kilometers) to the south, and Pozos Colorados, 40 miles (64 kilometers) to the south.
Around 45 miles (72 kilometers) to the north of Aracataca is Santa Marta, an important regional city where you'll find Rodadero Beach, Tayrona National Park and Santa Marta Cathedral. Taganga Beach, Customs House and Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta National Park are other good places to visit.
Those who have traveled a lot have learned that a good way to get the most out of a holiday is to memorize some interesting phrases in the native tongue. "¿Querría bailar conmigo?" is the Spanish way to say "Would you like to dance with me?" Or try "Este caballero pagará por todo" (This gentleman will pay for everything).
Independence Day is celebrated on the 20th of July, so if your visit coincides, take a break from sightseeing and join in the local festivities with happy locals.
When it is time to depart Aracataca, say goodbye the way locals do, with a hearty "Adiós."
